Check for loose wires around the cluster. Take the whole dash out and inspect the wires.

I would still guess you have a loose wire somewhere, or check your relays. You might have a relay going bad.

I think maybe it is a relay, try to find someone to run a diagonostic check on it. Your relay might do that, I could me wrong. Go to autozone I heard they werent too expensive for a diagonostic check.

maybe this will explain some, this car is a 240sx with sohc to dohc swap, i remeber reading to just replace the tach in the sohc cluster with dohc tach, anyone know if just using the dohc cluster i have caused this malfuntion, the orginal sohc cluster is being mailed to me.

That very well be the problem, im guessing you got the updated ECU for the DOHC. If not then you prolly got a prob with the ECU, but I dont think the DOHC will run without the ECU. I really dont know, the only thing that comes to mind after that is the wiring was not done right or there is a connection that came loose. Check all your ground wires also.

that is prolly your problem. You needed to redo the whole wiring system. I hope im reading it right.

and I say redo as the stuff that is different and not rewiring it to work, if that makes sense
