Greg and I are going to make a charitable donation this year - from the entire NICO family- and we want your input on which one we should pick. Feel free to post your opinions and why we should pick it.
Thanks.

We are having a big t-shirt sale to help fund the donation. See here for more details. happy-holidays-t-shirt-special-t545752.html

I've always liked St. Jude's. They research cancer in children.

American Cancer Society.

Cancer is something that pretty much everyone has experienced- either personally or with a loved one.

Can't really advise you. Holli & I give a good chunk of money each year to United Way since they money tends to stay in the community but their admin costs are a little high.

I would suggest that if you need a deciding vote you can check the final candidates out on the BBB website. I love the fact that the admin costs are listed. I won't give money to charity that can't even manage it's own finances.

I second the St Jude's.

I hate to hear when a child is diagnosed with a terminal illness so soon in their young lives. I had a teacher in high school who's son was diagnosed soon after birth. It was so sad to see what they had to go through with their little one....who ended up making it through by the way!

I'm a big fan of the MS Society. The print materials and newsletter are very well written and informative and make me feel like I'm connected.
But my charitable donations alternate between them and Ronald McDonald House. Yeah, yeah, its fast food company blah blah blah, but their mission and actions are amazing and truly make a difference to many families of hospitalized children by giving them somewhere to stay and more. Your donation is literally going to a good home.

Or you could adopt a village of children in Africa.

I like the charities that helps give justice to all the pets that get abused and mistreated...

I think its horrible what some people do to their pets I would love to see a law be passed that gives a much larger consequense to the individuals involved... Simply because pets are helpless and they give unconditional love so why have a pet if your going to mistreat it... Who ever does should go to hell!

I mean what I say as crude as it may be... Its just something that really burns me up..

Your money would help the many different services by allowing them to setup advertisement to help treated pets get good homes. Get medication for the pets, supplies, and staff ectt...

Nor am i a tree hugger or animal activists ect.. My Z has no cats so yea im definately not a tree hugger :chuckle:
I am a conservative.

I just simply think its horrible what some people do to their helpless pets.

Maybe its just my demographic, but there is a "help this sick, beat up puppy" commercial on pretty much every commercial break.

I personally don't care for organized charities, simply because you never know how much of your money actually goes to what you want it to go to. I'm a much firmer believer in helping someone out personally, like donating directly to your local fire department, or PayPaling Neal some cash so he can buy a plane ticket for his family when Japan is dealing with a radioactive scare.

:werd: I read an article on them a few years back and the mis-management of funds. It was sickening.

Make a Wish Foundation it's great that thousands of people want to find a cure but how about giving these kids something to look forward to and remember besides a hospital bed......

Bump for last minute ideas. We will be picking our charity the first of December and be making the donation the week before Christmas. Please keep the ideas coming and consider buying a t-shirt to help support the cause. The more we sell, the more we can donate. :)

Agrees with: 300ZXttZMAN

I've been donating for years to various animal shelters and organizations that train guide dogs for the blind.

Is there a charity devoted to removing sticks from people's arses? If so, that gets my vote.

I would first attempt to find a charity that gives every cent it gets to the foundation or cause it says it's advocating or fighting.

I hate how much of them use a percentage for their own operations, makes it sound fishy...
