Is the pedal itself sticking or is the engine hesitating? If it feels like it's revving slowly and then bumps, your motor mounts may be bad.

Not to be too obvious, but have you checked your mats? Do you have really big or wide feet?

By "sticking," I assume you mean it resists any initial movement from its resting (idle) position, but otherwise operates normally in the rest of its range of movement?

I bet you have dirty throttle bodies. Cleaning these will also improve the performance.

check the pedal itself, push it in with your hand and notice if any of the bushings down there are bad, if they are that may be your problem. Does your pedal make any noise?

You have a bad throttle body. I have the exact same problem on my 97 Q. I took it to the dealer and they charged me 300 dollars to run some throttle body cleaner through it. It actually made the problem worse. They said all they could do is replace is for about a grand. I'd say go to a local guy that knows what he's talkin about and see what he says. Dealers are only out to rape you.

Clean the throttle body(ies?)

They get a layer of Gra-Doo that sticks the throttle plate to the interior walls of the body. In order to clean correctly, it (they) must be removed, cleaned, reinstalled.

Sounds like the 98 Q has a different throttle body set up than the J. A brush and some throttle body cleaner gets rid of the stickiness. I have to do it every 3 months or so. I use a carefully placed screw driver lodged in the throttle cable cam to keep the butterflies open for easy access.
