I’m stumped. Recently bought a 2002 pathfinder that would start but die immediately unless you kept your foot on the throttle.

I figured out that the idle air control valve was bad and replaced it. It will start and run but the idle is very high and fluctuates between 1600-1800 rpm’s.

I attempted the idle relearn multiple times according to the manuel ec-71 but either it’s not working, I’m doing it incorrectly, or there’s a different issue I’m not catching. Any idea?!

Might be that the old IACV shorted out the ECM, caused by coolant leaking from the IACV gasket which is a very common issue with the 2000-2002 Pathfinder's and 2000-2003 Infiniti QX-4

If you open up the ECM case and find a burned chip on the circuit board than you will know that is the issue.

There are a few places that repair the ECM on eBay.

Lots of threads on the subject here...

Well I have pulled the ecm and checked it over thoroughly. ic-17 was not burnt nor did it have any burnt smell. I checked the entire board and could find no evidence of a malfunction to the ecm. But has anyone experienced needing to repair the board even without any physical evidence of damage? I am about to the conclusion that this must be so. I'm at the point I am thinking that I should just replace the chip on the ecm that usually fails from the IACV going bad and see what happens.

I confirmed I have power at the IACV harness, and continuity. The only other thing I am wondering is if it would make a difference if I have not bled the cooling system since replacing the IACV? I am going to try that when i get home after work. Other than that I have just about exhausted every other avenue. Tested tps and it was good, checked everywhere for vacuum leaks, nothing. :werd:
