hi! I bought truck in feb, had p1140 on when bought.. ive switched my cam sensors, same codes (p1140, p1130) thrown, so I switched them back. now I'm just getting p1140. I believe I change out the one on the driver side bc that's the bad one... right? p0300 came on after my nightmare with the fan clutch and everything related to that. spark plugs were changed the day before in march (I couldn't drive it for almost 6 weeks) I don't know what kind were put in, but will call to find out. other than that, what should I check first? is there a common issue that normally causes p0300? truck runs pretty good most of the time, it has its moments idleing rough and shaky, no balls on freeway (totally not used to that), and my gas mileage SUCKS. I haven't done the exact mileage on it, but the amount I put in vs what/where/how I drive is not feasible. ive never had a Nissan or a 4x4, but I'm trying to learn how to do this so I don't have to put it in the shop for everything. I'm going camping later this week and really want to take my truck for all the trails everyone else wont take in 2wd. any and all help would be awesome.

new- swirl control valve sylinoid (sp?)
-water pump
-spark plugs
-fan clutch
-fan clutch pulley bracket
-tensioner
- serpentine belt

Are you burning oil? Burning, dirty and old oil can cause a p1140. If you're experiencing driveability issues, the p1140 might be caused by a bad VVT solenoid. However, when this happens, the car usually also throws an advanced timing error code.

P0300 is a tough one - random misfire. Are all your coils plugged in? Are all your plugs gapped correctly? If you are eating gas, you are probably running rich.

Wait until the truck is idling rough, then disconnect the coils-on-plugs one at a time. Only keep one coil unplugged at a time. The car should run even more rough or even stall when you unplug one. When you find the bad coil, the car should run the same as it did before you unplugged it.

thanks for the reply.

since I got it back after the 6 wk nightmare, it has had an oil leak? i know ive been burning/going through oil WAY more than i should be. no other codes have popped up, just 1140 and 0300. ive cleared them multiple times and they keep coming back, lol. going to hook up scanner again now just to make triple check.

okay going to start with checking plugs and wires, again I'm new to this, so i take all the stuff off to get to them, and once i can access them and pull wires i start my truck?

No. You have a coil-on-plug setup. Don't remove anything, don't pull plugs. SStarour . If it runs rough, unplug one coil at a time. Each coil has a connector that you can depress and unplug from the wiring harness.

The idea is to find a faulty coil, so if the engine runs rougher when you unplug one, you know it was doing its job. Plug it back in and move on to the next one.

The rear coils are going to be a PITA to get to.

If you have a scan tool, check your fuel trim live data and report back. When did you last change your fuel filter? Did you put the right plugs in (NGK PLFR5A-11 or equivalent)? Have you been running high octane fuel?

I bought it in feb, slowly working on getting everything checked and replaced. will check fuel filter after I plug in scanner and get live data. I just found out about the spark plugs needing to be NGK, I honestly don't remember what kind I bought. I didn't change them, so I didn't really pay attention.. but now I know about them so will check them out too. I run 89, I accidently ran 87 once and it was horrible. so ive always ran 89.

P1140 is (US) passenger's side camshaft position sensor. Not sure on the P0300 though -- I thought the code was random misfire, meaning at least 2 bad cylinders, but I could be wrong.

Nevertheless, the 2001 model was shipped with faulty coil packs which was fixed in the 2001.5 model. Yours could be bad, in which the suggsted (expensive) fix is to replace all coil packs & spark plugs (don't use aftermarket coils, make sure its Hitachi). However, usually it's the dreaded P1320 code that is what indicates a faulty coil pack. You could also try swapping out the coils until you find the bad one(s), but that could be a pain.

Anyways, I would fix P1140 first, run some injector cleaner (Chevron Techron), and hope for the best / go from there.

Wrong. It's the intake valve timing control solenoid: http://www.autocodes.com/p1140_nissan.html

okay, took out both 'cam' sensors and cleaned them, cleaned the inside of where they go also. got everything back together and it drove great at first. I forgot to clear codes, so I did that earlier (0100, 0300, 1130, 1140 were popping up). drove a mile or so, and it came back on and was blinking (meaning a misfire was occurring). got hom, plugged the scanner back in and 0300 1140 are the two that came back up... soo its not my MAF? I would love it not to be.. but at the same time I thought I finally had some freaking answers!! help.
