Post

Hello all, just joined here in hopes to find some answers and gain some knowledge in the future. I just bought a 2003 Infiniti I35 for my daughter about a month ago. When I bought it, it was obviously running fine. No real issues that I could tell. A couple days ago however, the SES light came on. After that point, I noticed the car almost immediately started running really rough (vibrating, sputtering, etc). She drove it for a day or two back and forth from work and I was planning on checking the codes over the weekend. Friday evening I took it for a test drive and noticed the oil light came on. I immediately stopped and added some oil. I then went to get the codes checked and I got a P0011, P0021 and P0303, so IVT and cylinder 3 misfire. I spoke with a few mechanics and they are all over the place with their "diagnosis" so I figured I would do some research. One of the mechanics said I need to replace the cam and crankshaft position sensors. That seems odd that I would need to replace all the position sensors. So, with that being said, Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to NICO.

The mechanics are correct about probable problem with cam and crankshaft position sensor. But they don't have to be replaced immediately. Besides, there are other sensors used by ECM to control IVT position. Sometimes, the sensor are just dirty or has problem with the the connections/wiring.

Refer to the link below, starting on page EG-162 dor diagnosis and repair. For diagnosis of P0303, go to page EC-296
