Help on swapping hatch lid!!

I have a question on swapping the hatch lid. Do I have to put silicone on the hinges before I install it? I notice that theres a black rubbery thing surrounding the hinges, so Im assuming those are silicones.

if your refering to what i think you are...no, you can just reuse the old boots.

no, i remember when i took mine off, there is some black silicone stuff there, it looks like they put it on before they paint the car because its painted over. what i think its for is to keep water from being traped under the hinge mount and rusting, i am gona silicone it when i do mine, i figure it cant hurt
