a clutch on '93 240sx started to slip.i don't know exactly what i need to replace.i don't need a fancy performance parts, i only have stock kaits my daily drive so i need to get a new one or used one to rebuild iti want to get this done cheap, so whats the best way to fix my slipping clutch?is resurfacing flywheel be enough to eliminate the slip? or do i also need to replace or rebuild my clutch as well?if i need to rebuild a clutch, is there any rebuild kit sold anywhere? cheap?or simply replacing with new one is cheaper way to go?please give me some advice

ok, i have a bit better understanding of clutch, and i suppose i need to at least replace clutch plate and resurface flywheel if not damanged, and maybe the bearing, but i dont hear much noise so bearing should be ok, but i suppose bearings arent so expensive and probably a good idea to change?is there a nice and cheap replacement kit around?all i see is complete replacement clutch kit which i dont think is nessesary...

thanks

What I've learned from doing car repairs - do it right the first time and you'll be good. Do it wrong, and you'll do it again, and again, and again...

I'd suggest replacing the clutch, throwout bearing and resurfacing the flywheel. You can find OEM slave cyl. for like 15 bucks too, I'd say get that too just to give you a better feeling pedal.

AFAIK, you really can't rebuild a clutch, only replace...

If you're uncomfortable, I'd suggest going to a professional mechanic, just in case...

Well short term cost savings, just replace the disk and resurface the flywheel. But when the bearing and pressure plate start to go, you'll end up spending alot more in labor (unless you're doing it yourself) to get those replaced later. The bearing is always a good idea since it's a cheap part $20-30 tops.

Even if you're doing the clutch job yourself, I'd still suggest replacing the pressure plate, throw out bearing, disk and getting the flywheel resurfaced in one shot. It'll save you time and money in the long run.

thats pretty much exactly what i said. replace throw out bearing, pilot bearing, presure plate, and disk for no future problems, (unless you or the shop does the install wrong) check your other thread for my reply.

You can buy a clutch assembly kit at the local auto parts store for about 125.00. It will contain all the necessary parts, and also the pilot bearing alignment tool which you will need to get the clutch and pressure in the right place.

If you want to cut corners, you can skip resurfacing the flywheel if yours is not scored, it runs about 30 bucks. You can just use emory paper on it, but I would not reccomend that.

If your slave cylinder is not leaking, you dont have to replace that. It is easily replaced at any time without taking the transmission out.

Not sure if the 93 has it, but while your down there, remove that damn dampener box. Search and you should be able find a how to somewhere.

Some companies sell a remanufactured clutch assembly. It is not used, just remade. There is nothing wrong with them, but usually the price difference between the new and the remanufactured is small.

Dont worry about adjusting your pedal, that is not the correct method to detect a worn or slipping clutch.
