why dont you turbo the SOHC motor... if you're concerned w/ budget why spend the money swapping in a DOHC motor? the SOHC is perfectly capable of handling your power goals with ease. plus the injectors are top feed so you can cut cost further by using DSM 450cc injectors and a resistor box from a junked turbo DSM.

I'm just curious why everyone automatically assumes that more cams = more power?

the DOHC ka's had more power out of the box due to their higher compression ratio (89's were at 9.1:1 initially then went down to 8.6:1, DOHC KA's are set to 9.5 or 9.6:1 I believe in all years but even at that they're only rated at about 10 hp more from the factory)

meh...SOHC's are usually REALLY tired and wornout, and from what I've seen not many parts for them at all compared to the DE when it comes to turbo kits and the like.

but yeah..if you do a compression test and the motor is healthy - look around for some piece it together stuff - you'll get around 200rwhp for cheap as hell if you do it right.

ya **** that piece of **** kae. you dont want it at all. they cant even handle 1 psi of boost. get rid of it. might get about 2 bux for it.

BTW i run 15 psi daily on my kae.

LMAO...good post.

DOHC motors are simply better in design and theory. The motors have piston oil squirters and the head will flow better.

But for under 350whp, no swap is needed at all in my eyes.

I might get flamed but if it was me I would stick a SR in it. The reason I would go that route is because you have a 16 year old motor that probably will not last long on boost. Limited choices for manifolds, downpipe and IC piping.

The car will be easier to sell with a SR motor rather then the 16 valve motor.

well a friend of mine just crashed his 94 240 but its auto .. my transmission should fit with that engine .. he has a de and it only has 100k miles on it .. i think im getting the whole car for under 500 .. so i can decide from there .. what would i need to do if i wanted to turbo the de to reach hp higher than 300 on it?

If you are going to turbo the SOHC then at least rebuild it and you'll be good to go.But being that dohc has onyl 100k on it just do the swap and have fun. Easy to get parts for both engines. But due to no oil squirters then keep the hp under 300ish for the sohc.Which is within your goal.
