Welcome!! You'll find a lot of very friendly and knowledgeable people here. Though I am far from the most knowledgable, here is my two cents worth:

My personal preference would be the third gen (the fourth generation is my least favorite of all Maximas, but that's just me, it doesn't mean anything). It has independent rear suspension, something dropped in the 4th and 5th gens and picked back up in the 6th. I have a 3rd gen GXE and I love that car. The SE has a much better engine, though. 3rd gens have the best stock suspension on a Maxima aside from the new 6th gen.The fourth gen has the advantage of the VQ, though. It is without a doubt one of the greatest V6's ever made, and to many that is more important than suspension.Look through some of the articles and posts here in the forums and try to see which one fits your need the best. Either one is a great car, so you really can't go wrong.

Also, what purpose are you buying the car for? Is it a daily driver? Do you have mod plans? If so, what are they?

If you're looking for opinions on the handling difference between 3rd and 4th gens, there is a thread developing on just that subject. Here's a link:http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....70280

Get a 4th Gen. They look nicer and are faster.
