Try getting one with atleast a gas hook up. This way you will get decent welds and spend less time grinding little splatter everywhere.

Cheap.......welder......in the same sentence??

I highly doubt you'll do this, and the price to quality ratio will more than likely convince you to go with a harbor freight welder but INVEST in a good welder, such as a Lincoln or a Millermatic. They have MIG/Flux Core welders for very affordable prices. I believe the Lincoln 140 iirc sells for about 500$.

Just note you won't be able to do thin aluminum pieces with a MIG.

i wasn't planning on welding aluminum but i know i do want a gas hook up dough. so the welders on harbor freight are not a winner then huh.....i also wasn't planning on using it everyday....just when it is needed.

I have a mig welder from harbor freight. If you can weld, there is no reason why not to use it.

\man i owen a harbor freight welder but its a flex core n the truth its not worth it if u r goin to weld on your car, as far as body panels n that sort of stuff, u will grind like hell n by the time u get a good weld on there you will warp the sheet metal. so i bough a lincoln mig(with gas) its a 110 but it gets the job done. i can weld anything up to 3/16 thick, i think you should just save up n get a lincoln or a miller, it be better on the long run...

Northern tool and equipment has a very nice little gas Mig 130 for $270. Its their house brand, but considering it has a warranty from a very respectable company that has been in business for decades, its a solid choice. I would definitely recommend it.

I should add, my neighbor has this and it makes for some very pretty welds. Just don't be trying to weld anything thicker than 5/16ths steel. It will do aluminum pretty well too. He has had his for ~8yrs with zero problems. I actually used it yesterday.
