hello, this is my first post as a brand new s13 91 coupe owner. Not bad for a second car as a 17 year old senior. this will be my car that i will hopefully use as a track car for dgtrials and a fun street car...with my first car(1987 volvo 240 wagon) as the beater. I WILL be getting my sr20det swap...no matter what i takes. and if i will be attending cornell for engineering, then i should be able to handle this task, but to get started, what tools will i need? will a basic 250 piece tool set from sears be enough for my sr20det swap? I will be most likely be getting my engine and transmission from heavythrottle or srswap.com, so hopefully that will come with everything i need...will it? i mean..will all the little stuff come with it? adapters, shift boot, transmission shift console for s13 interior, etc etc? and last question...will a lift be neccessary?

I'd appreciate any and all advice and help given to me.

You absolutely positively must get a set of metric sockets, a good ratchet, extensions, and a universal joint for it. Also, those new gear wrenches, also in metric sizes are imo, a must...they rock. You'll also want a good breaker bar, a good heavy sledge hammer, a hacksaw, a rotary tool with a lot of different bits w/flexible extension, and a big honkin crowbar. You'll also want a multimeter, crimper/wire stripper, electrical tape, spare wire, butt connectors etc. for wiring stuff. A torque wrench would really be useful as well, also a drill and decent drill bit set is always nice. Ideally, you'd have a sawzall as well for those moments that you have to "engineer" something.

Edit: you can also rent an engine lift from Nations Rent or other places. You also should have a good screwdriver set.

uhmmm yeah... you'll be needing some specalty tools that you can either rent or borrow, but basically a full (METRIC) socket and box wrench set, set of screwdrivers, linesmans pliers, a breaker bar, torque wrench, etc... Dont forget a floor jack and some stands. Id say just get the basic stuff, and then make some friends who also have tools so you can steal/borrow them haha.

Welcome to NICO man, dont forget to use the search button when you can, and I hope your money saving goes well! :D

Not at 30-40 bucks or so a set...just always keep them on the socket strip, replace them when you finish using one ;)

I just got a 254 piece set from craftsman at sears for my birthday today. Its got a ton of tools, like deep socket small metrics that i wish i had when i was working on my thunderbird.
