Was up everyone i had a question about swaping a j30 vlsd in my 98 240sx with a rb25det with no abs. and my deferential on the 240 did not have lsd in it it was the one wheel wonder,, and the j30 vlsd has abs.. well i tell you what happen i swaped the deferential out all i had to do is use the back plate off of my deferential on the j30 cause mine had 2 bolt holding it on and the j30 had 4 so i swap that and it bolted right up, then i bolted the drive shaft up to it and when i did that i felt like it moved?? and it did when i drove the car i was making a grinding noise around the transmission so we measured the deferential and the j30 vlsd was half in shorter the the stock 240 deferential so i guess it pulled the drive shaft half a inch from the transmission and it was sliping?? can someone let me know what i have to do to make the j30 vlsd work on my 240 with a rb25det.. cause i really dont want to take my drive shaft to a shop to let them cut it and make it a half inch longer, the drive shaft was built for a 95-99 240sx with rb25det with no abs and it was like 500 dollars so i really dont want to cut it can i use a spacer or something to make it work?? thanks again for your time..

Usually the J30 diff is longer and has a 2 bolt cover. Sounds more like a s13 diff with lsd. You can take out the lsd and put it in your open diff case along with the lsd flanges. That way everything stays the same. You will want to use the shims from the open diff and the bearing caps from the lsd. Its not as easy as just swapping the whole 3rd member but its far from a hard job. Just make sure you dont have excessive back lash.
