I have been looking at this '96 Nissan 240SX SE for a while now. It has 116,229 miles on it. 5-speed manual. I havent had a chance to drive it around but dealer has it priced at $5500.

I checked the bluebook and it was $6735.

I'm thinking the Engine or Trans has something wrong with it.

Does anyone know what happens to this car at around 100,000+ miles? (problems)

And how reliable is it and what is the overall quality of this car?

Thanks for helping a car newbie

i got 160 on mine and the only thing that stoped it from running was a blond chick cuttin off the camaro i was following. Try to drive it. maybe the dealer just doesnt know what he could sell it for or maybe hez not caught upin the sr/240 craze. get the vin and do a car facts on it. thatl tell you whats been done to that idividual car.

if that checks out clean and it drives well pounce on that shiznat

COol, I'll check it out tomorrow if i'm not working. Oh i just read phenryiv1's post. Mine is pretty much the same problem...except the wife and i wrecked a Malibu :D...but i do need a reliable car.

The mileage is my big concern for this or any car and it seems from what everyone said on the other post 100,000 miles is pretty young for this car. So I'll try it out ;)

Thanks

116k shouldnt be a problem. the ka will go for 200k without much trouble if you just change the oil and keep up with regular maintenance. i think you could get the car for a bit less, maybe 5k even. i doubt any car dealer will not take 5000 cash. they might even go for 4800 or so. ask around here or go to fresh alloy (i think? maybe 240sx.org who has the free carfax?) and ask them to run a carfax report for you, like sdwyzs14 said. good luck with it.
