I recently dropped a gtir sr20det in my se-r, I had no problem getting it running. and it runs good and strong. i just have a couple thing to iron out, and i was hoping you guys could help me out.

first i will give you my basic set up, its a gtir, stock ecu, injector resisters, se-r wiring harness and M/T , FMIC, and i used Mobil 1 10w 30.

one problem i am having is the oil light comes on after driving for a little bit. it dose not light up all the way, but if i baby it and don't let it boost up at all, it wont come on at all. I have an oil pressure gage and it shows good oil pressure. I am thinking it comes on cuz the oil is getting to hot, the engine compartment seems to be hotter than it use to be, and the oil turns black pretty fast (I flushed the oil 3 times when i installed it). i also have a suspicion it has to do with the fact i have not installed a new fuel pump (getting it for Christmas) and it is running lean, and hot. (the temp gage is normal)

witch leads to my second problem, I am pretty sure its cuz of the fuel pump, but when i put the peddle down all the way the engine cuts off for a second, then comes back on. one time i put regular in it, and the problem got so bad i couldn't even pass people. I have spent days surfing the web looking for an answer and haven't come up with much.

I am a noob to this site and any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

The "cutting off" is essentially your engine being starved for fuel. This is because of your fuel pump and, if I'm reading you correctly, stock SE-R ECU. You really need an ECU for the GTi-R. If I'm reading that part wrong, don't worry about it. You really ought to have a piggyback computer for fine tuning with this setup.

Injector resistors? What injectors are you using?

How is your oil T set up with the gauge? Are you sure you're putting enough oil in it (seems dumb, but it can't hurt to check)?

You're definitely running lean, VERY lean. I wouldn't drive the car at more than 10% throttle with a GTi-R and a stock SE-R fuel pump. I'm exaggerating, but seriously, you need that fuel pump badly.

i don't drive the car, its winter and there is almost a foot of snow on the ground, driving it would be suicide. I am hoping to have everything good to go by spring.

i know the fuel pump is a big problem, i guess i am wondering if that is the cause of all my problems, and if not what else do i need to do. i will be getting the pump very soon, and i want to know what else to expect

I am using the stock GTiR ECU and injectors, just the se-r harness.i have an electric oil pressure gage, but i don't have an oil temp gage just the in dash temp gage. I will put one in when my pump arrives, just to make sure every thing is good, or if i need to get an oil cooler be for i can daily drive it(i plan on getting a good one, when i get the cash)

haha, I got enough oil in it, a shop told me to put thicker oil in it, it just made it warm up faster, and the light come on faster. (I hate that shop, they originally told me i would have gotten more power and been better off turboing my almost 200k mile sr20de, and that i would have been disappointed in the gtir motor, thy were way wrong. it was also way cheaper. a full turbo kit is way more than the motor. he wanted a couple grand to get the gtir running, it cost me less then $200 to get it running, most of that was in oil, $300 if you count the fuel pump((sorry for the rant, but thy pissed me off so bad, he was also talking **** about people on forums, but there is a lot of very good information on these forums))needles to say i wont go there any more, but its hard to convince the rest of the family of it) but i did get a norther flush out of it. thanks for the reassurance on the fuel pump issue, i hope that solves all my problems. i will keep you all posted when i get the pump, till then i welcome ever ones $.02 on my problem, or even on the car itselfthanks

I'm glad I misread about the ECU and injectors. Phew. Believe it or not, people do that sometimes.

Anyway, drop that fuel pump in and when the weather clears, see how it is. It could be just that, or it could be the oil sending unit (or maybe even the oil pickup is damaged, have you looked?)

I say the oil sending unit isn't plugged in or its going bad. If you have a gauge hooked up and its reading around 12psi @ idle and 50psi @ cruise speed @ 3000 rpm or so (those numbers are for a warm engine), then don't worry about the idiot light on the dash. In most cases if that light comes on, it is already too late. Double check to make sure the oil sending unit is plugged in, if it is, then I would replace it if you are concerned about it. Since you have the gauge, I wouldn't worry though, it is 100x more accurate. For what its worth, I run Mobil 15w-50 in my turbo sentra. Have since the motor swap 6 yrs ago. Just as another reminder, PUT IN A WALBRO FUEL PUMP. The stock fuel pump can't handle a t25 boosted sr, more less a t28.

it might be the oil pick up, when I had it on the engine stand I had to take a couple dents out of the oil pan, the oil pick up looked fine, and i figured that wasn't the problem cuz the oil pressure is good, its a little higher than 12 and 50. I was planning on getting a new oil pan and pick up with the oil cooler, I hope i don't need to do that now, those parts aren't the easiest to find, but not to bad.I will order an oil sending unit right away, the light is just bugs the **** out of me. (The oil sending unit is just for the idiot light right, Or dose it actually do something important?)What dose Nissan recommend for oil, I cant find a consistent answer, anywhere. (not to change the subject, but am a little confused)

Most turbo sr20 guys run 15w-50. I choose it for the simple fact the turbo generates quite a bit more heat than a NA motor. Yes the only thing the oil sending unit does it activate the idiot light when it detects NO pressure, which at that point is too late.
