Hey guys I have been noticing a odd noise in my car and I barley drive it. Ok now the hard part is to describe it. It occurs when the car eventually warms up and I am giving it throttle in gear or not. The car is a 97 manual. It sounds like a scractching noise kind of like this icon: . Its like a scratching grinding noise I dont know I will try and take it to a mechanic when I get time but maybe you guys can help. It only happens when im accelerating after ive driven for 5-10 min.

Check your fluids first. PS, diff, transmission etc. then check your brakes. It is really difficult to diagnose.

A rattling noise comes from under my car too, it sounds like it's coming from around where the test pipe is.

I have a very annoying rattle/screeching/scratching sound coming from my exhaust, especially around 3k rpms. It used to only be at 3k, but its just gotten worse. Very ready for a new exhaust, just as soon as I have the cash.

The rattling could be your cat falling apart...I had that problem on mine.

I will try and goto the mechanic this week. I love that car so much it just hurts to see it break down like that when I barley drive it. I sure hope its something with fluids or the cat, that just means I have to upgrade muahaha.

Ok guys I went to the dealership since every mechanic was supposedly on a damn lunch break and he said nothing was wrong and the car look good and didnt even charge me the fee to look at my car. He said the noise I am hearing is the compressor and whenever the clutch automatically disengages. I dont really understand how that can be a normal noise, but he said if I ever swapped out the clutch for an upgraded one the noise wouldnt be there. Maybe I wore the clutch to that point learning manual on this car. Anyone else have ideas? I feel a lot better knowing nothing is wrong though.

uhhh... screeching noise like worn out belts?

I can only think of the throw out bearing going bad in order for the clutch to make some noise.... but that would have to be only when the clutch is released....

He said everything looks very clean for a 97. He said its in very good condition and the belts, fluids checked out. Its not a screetching noise. I dont think its normal but nothing seems to be damaged. Maybe it is the throwout bearing. I guess I have to live with it until the noise gets worse. BTW I dont even have 50k on the car so I dont think it should have serious problems just yet...I dont even push that thing, I baby it too much heh.

If its the throwout bearing... it would be more like a whinning noise.. if its the throwout bearing then I suggest you get that replaced as soon as possible because if it gets worse one day you are not gonna be able to shift into any gears....
