My 1991 will rattle at stock timing when running anything but premium. I realize I am a DE while you are an E, but I chalk both up to "engine variances". Nissan does run the timing on these cars right up against the limit, and if you and I run a little poorly, I think all we can do is buy better gas or back off the timing. Long term, we can look for other problems (knock sensor? Temp sensor? Thermostat?) and a more permanent solution, but as long as you get good mileage and make good power, there is no harm running a few degrees off stock. Just remember to re-time before a smog-check.
