I just bought a 92 240sx with a check engine light on. When I checked the code it came up as an EGR malfunction. I first checked my EGR valve and that was working just fine. The problem is there is no vacuum going to the EGR valve. Next I disconnected all three vacuum lines going to the EGR solenoid and noticed there was no vacuum present at any of the lines. Now correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't one of these lines have vacuum at all times? So my next step is to find where I am loosing the vacuum supply. What I need to know is Which line supplies the vacuum to the solenoid valve? There are three lines, one goes to the BPT valve, one is the vacuum line, and then there is another that I don't know its purpose. I tried following the lines but two of them are very hard to follow due to the paths they are routed. My other question is where does the vacuum supply line connect to the manifold? My idle is unstable so I'm thinking the vacuum line going to the EGR solenoid is disconnected somewhere which would explain the EGR malfunction and the unstable idle.

Does anyone know where the vacuum supply line for the EGR/ Canister solenoid is connected to the manifold? I'm not able to follow the vacuum line without removing the manifold.

Good luck chasing it down. Here is a link to the vacuum diagram for the car.

During idle, for example, the vacuum signal is off. The ecu cuts the vacuum by sending signal to solenoid during idle. test for vacuum when you rev the engine. egr is on at specific times. vacuum supply is prob ok.

one vacuum line goes to the area around the iacv. 11. all the hard lines run under the throttle. ii only see one getting vacuum there. the rest connect to rubber hoses and i guess go to the charcoil canister and aiv.

look up egr in tutorials in my signature.

i guess two of the rubber hoses go to the aiv. and some would go the canister by air filter. looks like the short rubber hose with no colour stripe is the vacuum source. the other vacuum source being around where the iacv is.

Thanks vancouverbc that picture was what I was looking for. That hose is the one connecting to the vacuum port on the EGR solenoid valve. Today I took off my air intake to look inside the throttle body. I was surprised to see the opening in the throttle body that supplies the vacuum was actually on the air intake side and not the manifold side. I'm thinking the line might be clogged somewhere not allowing the vacuum to reach the solenoid valve. I'll have to look at it again tomorrow it's too dark out now.

interesting . let us know how it works out for you. there is a hose from the intake manifold to one of the ports on the egr solenoid. seems like the vacuum goes through swirl contrl solenoid before going to bpt valve.

where you getting vacuum at cruise? I'm having an egr problem on my car but the egr, bpt valve, hoses, and cat is good. i get vacuum at rev but nothing at cruise and thats why im failing smog im wondering if its my solenoid that is not working properly. and how would i test it?

i have a 1990 240sx sohc
