The power steering on my 90 skyline GTS.

There is power steering fluid and theres no leaks and the belt is still attached and tight.

It only goes out after you start driving when the car is not moving the power steering works fine only when u start to drive it gets harder and harder to turn until it dosnt work. If you stop and the car and turn it off then start it again really fast then the power steering will start working again then when start driving again it seezes up once again.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this??

How tight is the belt? Is it keeping the pump from turning? Air in system....

I made a mistake the powersteering is not completly gone. It works when the car is not in motion. When i start to drive the steering wheel stifens up. there is still is powersteering its just really hard.If i turn off the car and turn it right back on then its really easy to turn the wheel again for about 30sec of driving.

This is what i tryed. I loosend the belt because it was REALLY TIGHT. and checked the fluid that was good and thre was no metal or debris in it, Theres no unsual noises comming from the power steering pump. And theres no leaks and i tryed reseting the ECU.

One thing that did happen was my speedo broke right before the power steering went.Would the speedo not working might be causing this maby confusing the euc somehow and not giving the right pressure to help turn the wheels???

I would think it was all mechanical though, y would ecu need signal for P/S.bleed system i guess for trapped air.?

"You have a (insert year) Skyline (insert model)?" These are the words I dream someone will say to me someday.

It was an easy fix it was the speedo cable from the transmission came off the speedo head. i too kthe speedo head out and got a new cable and re conected it and then once the speedo was working the power steering fixed it self.

The skyline have a speed assisted ps like older civics. the faster you go the tighter the ps gets with the speedo not connected, the ecu got mixed input and would tighten the steering as if you were going over 100km/hr. i guess its just a safty thing.

But thanx for all who gave some susgestions.
