had a guy replace my headgasket and do my timing chain while he was in there on my 89. But when he starts it the oil light comes on. So he checked the oil filter after it ran for abit, nothing, no oil in it at all. So then he took the oil filter off, started and still no oil coming out. Changed out the oil pump and still nothing. I was pretty pissed off, was supposed to take it home today. So he brought down the oil pan and checked everywhere for clogs, nothing. Hes gonna work on it more on monday. Has anyone come/heard of this problem before? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.-and yes, theres oil in the engine.

It could be the oil pump drive gear since I assume you have the KA24E not the KA24DE.

If he ran your engine for a few minutes and there was no oil pressure how is your head still good? No oil is getting through the filter? Or just the stupid light is on?

i'm guessing the oil pump either needs to be primed or the oil pickup system needs fixing.

my friend had this same problem. turned out the bolts for the oil pickup to pump were loose. also needed a new gasket between the two. i'd check there, prime the pump and see if that works. sometimes it takes a long time to get pressure if you don't prime it but that's bad for the motor. make sure you have the top end lubed (valve cover off to oil all lobes) before starting or cranking for an extended period of time.
