Hey everyone. We have a 1988 pickup with a 4 speed manual. It barely gets driven but was working fine when it was parked. Will not go into gear and can't back it out of the driveway. Any ideas? Thanks

Check the clutch fluid and make sure it's full.

A couple of things - Mentioned Eariler post fluid level. Possible moisture migrated into the clutch slave cylinder causing it to freeze up,or not allowing the clutch rod to fully disengage the clutch. Also after sitting for a long period of time,it is possible for the clutch disc to rust to the flywheel. When you push on the clutch does the pedal go to the floor???????? If the fluid level was low,you may have to bleed the clutch

I know this post was made 20 days ago, but I am curious if you got your problem solved? I need closure for this type of thing. Also if you have not fixed it, please provide more details, Ie does the clutch pedal seem weak, will it allow you to put the truck in gear with the engine off? Have you tried rocking the truck whilst in gear (if it will allow it to go in whilst shut off)

I wont go in to a lot of things to check since I am not even sure you still have the issue. My clutch went recently, but after having replaced the slave and master cylinder (slave was bad but since I had to bleed the clutch replaced both) it works perfectly.

Thanks for the info. My dad took it to the shop. The whole clutch plate was seized and the rivets were showing. Guess he got money's worth on the original clutch from 1988 LOL.!
