The fan does not come on, now. The graphic shows the fan speed increasing, but no air movement.

It started doing this, on Saturday. The fan graphic would show the speed increasing, but the fan would not start. Then a few seconds later, the fan came on. It did this twice, but the fan always started.

Now the fan won't even start. I drove about 15 minutes before lunch, and was drenched with sweat. Not a good problem in central Alabama, in June/July!

I am printing out the FSM, to run the diagnostic on the system.

If anybody has had this problem, and can give me any insight, please do so.

PS, I checked the fuses, and none are blown. All the buttons seem to operate correctly, but the fan just won't run, in heating, cooling, or even econ modes.

Thanks!

There is a post on this by Q45tech. Something about the variable (Darlington?) resistor for the fan speed control unit on the fan motor.

I didn't find it in my search. I will try some alternate searches.

Thanks, great info. Between that & the FSM, I should be fine.

Everything was fine, until the car hit 200,000 miles....

When my resister went....it only blew on high..... or off if I turned it off....so I don't know if that's the issue.

Check the 2 - 15 amp in parallel fan motor fuses inside if it doesn't even work on high,

Probably a worn out fan motor - 10 years after all.

Both fuses are fine (looking). I didn't replace, just pulled and re-inserted. I will do some more intense checking.

The doors don't lock with the remote, anymore, and the driver's side rear door wont lock or unlock other than manually at the door. The system won't reset, when I try to program my remote, or the second remote I have.

The same driver's rear door window does not roll down with the console switches, but does work with the door switch, AND will still work, even if the ignition switch is off!!!!

I bought a LAN controller off of eBay, but haven't had a chance to put it in. In fact, I just now, today, printed section HA of the FSM.

I guess I will be doing some diagnostics, tonight.

Ran the diagnostics.

No codes, no failures, except teh fan just didn't run.

I can adjust the temperature setpoint, and see the graphic change, and even hear the "Full on" relay click on , when the graphic gets to full throttle.

Ambient temp: 94Inside temp: 108Intake Temp: 72

This is kinda cool! I think I will do this test more, to see just how hight the temperature gets in the car.

I will tear into the glovebox, and check the motor, tonight, when I get home.

Interesting thing I found. If I turn the controller to "ECON", then the air flowing through the system kinda "Jumpstarted" the fan. Then the fan would run. Once I stopped, and shut off the fan, it would not re-start.

I am pretty sure hte motor has gone bad. I will try to make it to Saturday, before I tear into the fan.

Took the fan motor out. It acutally ran, when I turned it upside down. Upon disassembly, I found the brushes in bad shape, and the copper motor surfaces badly gouged, from dirt and grit. I sanded down the motor surface, and cleaned it all up. Reassembled it, and it blows like new!

Saved me about $200 to $400 in repairs, and only took 2 hours, including drying time.

Not a hard repair, at all.

The brushes still ahve some life in them. Maybe another 100,000 miles or so.

I washed the motor, housing, and fan, since it was all nasty. I didn't want to put it back together wet.

Congratulations! I've been burned so many times trying to repair that I've given up and just replace things now. No patience for even the possibility of repeat fixes.

Always good to have spares: I have spares of every electric motor rehabed at my leasure. WAITING.

My HVAC fan finally gave out at 235,000 miles 12 years caught it before it burned up the speed controller.

To many spare parts to ever drive anything but a 90-93 Q.

Starters, condenser fan, hvac, wiper, seat, window , sunroof.
