well about a week i got dtc p0505 iacv malfunction on my 2000 maxima. i tried to clean the iacv and still get the SES light back on. then i tried to perform the idle learning procedure on my car and still getting the SES light with the same code. i do not have access to the nissan consult tool, wish i did, that would have probably helped big. i searched for TSBs on alldata online and i did find that nissan had a TSB on it. I also search around boards and a bunch of people are saying they needed their ECM replaced??? any way to avoid changing the ECM and getting this problem fixed? i definitely dont wanna throw money into a new ECM. any pointers are greatly appreciated, THANKS!!

also for symptoms i am getting crappy idle that always bounces up and down. with the a/c on it also contributes to the problems

Try replacing your Idle Air control valve and see where that takes you. The coil or something along those lines inside the IACV could have an open circuit, causing it to not function correctly.

We have seen where they start leaking coolant and thus, leak coolant into the connector. Then, the coolant acts as a conductor and creates a short and the ECU gets fried.

i think i might just have to do that. when i replace it, will that prevent that problem with the coolant issue? i'll update and repost on what's going on with the next step. hope i didnt fry my ecu

I am having the same problem with my '00 Maxima engine code p0505. My husband has cleaned the IACV and he says it is not leaking. I believe that the IACV can be bad without leaking can't it? Leaking is what happens when you ignore it and then you fry the ECM, correct? Is there anything else that would cause the problems with the idle? When the IACV is disconnected the car idles fine.

Thank you, Yvette

Welcome to NICO!

If the car has a rough idle with the IACV connected, but a smooth idle when disconnected, it's bad. I would look to getting it replaced to rule it out. Otherwise you may look into taking it to a dealership or shop that has a Nissan Consult scan tool.

Replacing the IACV is the first fix , then have the dealer erase the dtc, clear the self-learn & perform an idle air volume learn, that is if the wiring & connectors are ok, & re-check if the SES ligth will come back. If the same code comes back, chances are the old IAC motor may have knockout the ecm. Good luck.

Probably try to perform IAVL first & recheck, before replacing parts. You need a Consult 2 to do this.

You have to watch spraying cleaner in the IACV as there are electronicparts in there. You can check it with a multimeter to see if there isresistance and check the connector to see if it is getting volts.Chiltons will have the specs on it and I think the FSM will too.

I have recently had the same code being thrown by my 2000 Maxima. My car was having trouble idling and staying running (idling around 300rpm), so I checked it and the code P0505 was being thrown. Now since the rough idle problem my car displays the: ABS, TRAC OFF, SLIP lights. Could the idle air control valve make all of these lights come on? Or do I have 2 seperate problems?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
