I recently got a Altima Cd player for my 96' 240. It attaches directly to my factory harness. It does play Cd's and tunes in radio stations and has text, BUT makes NO sound what so ever. I was told it has something to do with an amplified system. I was just thinking it just needs to have a few speaker wires on the harness to be switched around. I kno all the wires on the male pigtail harness of my 240 makes perfect contact with the Altima radio female connection all but one single wire...Can this radio ever be compatible with my 240? The manufacter date on the radio says 01', Clarion it's not a Bose...Mayb somebody can fill me in on some helpful info.or send info.on what wires need to be attached or disattached 2 get this radio to make some sound....The whole system in the car is stock,I dont know about the factory amp, about the "ACTIVE"system or what not or,if the amp gets signal from the Altima radio. The Altima radio attaches perfectly to my factory harness, but no sound.... Alitma radio Model number.PN-21991...... ..[email protected]

Sounds like a bad radio or came from an amplified altima becuase almost all nissans uses the same harness for early to late 90's. Make sure you have speakers too, I have seen people buy radios for cars with no radios and it doesnt work cause there are no speakers (I work in a car audio shop).

None of the nissan radios are made by bose. The Bose name is put on them so people can see that the stereo is Bose and feel all warm and fuzzy when others say, "WOW BOSE.. OOOH, AHHH". When in actuality Bose is just a complicated and WAY overrated audio upgrade (term used loosely). Companys 99% of the time do not make their own radios. Clarion makes mostly all the radios and speakers for Nissan. The execption is when Bose supplies SPEAKERS and amplifiers.

The difference in the systems is whether the 2 cars have ACTIVE (with separate amps) or normal with the amp in the head unit.

There are a few threads about this... this is def a popular topic. The cd player can work in your car, but if it does not work when you hook it up... you will spend too much time getting your car wired for either an Active or non active setup.

My guess is that you have a non - active Altima cd deck and that your 240's Active System amps have not been removed/bypassed.

If you have a non active system in your 240 (base model S14 with 4 lugs on the wheels and not 5) then you should be able to hook up a non active Altima stereo.

BUT........ If you have an Active system Altima cd player, just forget about it and sell it. Trust me, it is not a pretty picture.
