Post

Hello,

I purchased a '92 Maxima SE this weekend that is mostly stock and mechanically reliable (or should be). This car has 220k on it, but less than 40k on the motor and has all new struts and springs (lowered 2").

Unfortunately, there are a lot of minor "Gremlins" floating about. My first issue I am going to post has to do with the Heat/Air.

The air works beautifully, so does the heat - but not without switching hoses to go from one to the other and there are no adjustments. I have attached a picture that shows the part that they guy I bought it from said that I would have to move these hoses to get either heat or air, but not both (or the ability to customize the temp to suit me).

Question - what is that part called, and is there a website where I can find it? I have gone through many sites and haven't been able to recognize it so I am getting frustrated.

Could it be something else and this is just a work-around?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am looking forward to getting past this little stuff and making my ride look slick.

Thanks in advance. Many more questions to come.....

The blend doors on the early Max's are vaccumm operated. Just run a line tee from that hose there now and 2 seperate lines to that actuator. Should be problem solved.

Thank you very much, I am going to swing by Autozone on the way home and get a tee and see what happens. I have looked for a blend door actuator and can't find one so I am hoping this does the trick.

I took most of the dash apart yesterday and found that plastic piece that attaches to the temperature control lever had broken where the cable attaches that runs to the blend door. Will post pictures later. Ordered a new climate control box on ebay, should be good to go later in the week. Until then, needlenose pliers will do the trick.

I re-routed the vacuum hoses as my dealer service manual shows and works fine.
