Hey guys, I just brought my new Rogue home today, and it is awesome. But I noticed when I got out I smelled a burning rubber smell, that I didn't immediately realize was coming from my vehicle. After a couple more small trips around town, I figured it out and the smell was definately coming from the wheel wells. It was kind of windy, so it was hard to really narrow it down and be certain if it was coming from all wheel wells or just one. It was kind of like burning rubber, but not quite.

Do you think this may be normal, possibly the new brake linings just breaking in on their first use? I put the windows down and couldn't hear any sort of grinding noise, but I'll check this out again tomorrow. If anybody has had a similar occurance, or if this is normal for a brand new vehicle please let me know. Thank you very much!!

Its funny that you mention that. We brought our Rogue SL home on Thursday. My wife and I both noticed the smell also. With each day the smell is getting less pronounced. I think you are spot on about the brakes.

Hope this helps. (you are not alone!!)

I noticed similar smells as well.

Brakes have a strong odor... but not like burning rubber. If you have ever been near an arc welder while it's been used, you know what I'm talking about. It's very 'metallic' smelling.

I atttributed the smell to the exhaust system and other engine components burning off residual oil (oil is used to lubricate the dies when bending metal) and undercoating overspray.

The smell does dissapate after a few weeks. There should be nothing to worry about unless it persists. If it does not go away, have the dealer look at it.

I would most definatley attribute your odor to the initial brake in of the Rogue's brake system. Mine laasted for about 2-3 days and was gone. I've had this on almost every new car I've ever owned.... Good Luck!!!

Thanks a lot guys, that reassures me, I'm sure you are right and it's just a combination of brake break-in and other oils and solvent residue, in the exhaust, etc..

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your information!

The smell is normal. I had the same thing when i brought my SL home . It is coming from the engine from the trim peices under the hood. If you notice those are plastic molded peices. It will all go away in afew weeks. Nothing to be worried about BUDDY
