hey all,

finally getting an 1992 R32 GT-R im in montreal, quebec, canada, and im concerned about the purchase of the vehicle. the owner is a 56 year old man who doesnt know a whole lot about cars, tried to start an importing company and lost a lot of money due to red tape... OR SO HE SAYS... who knows what the real story is, anyways, the engine area is immaculate, the paint is perfect, i need a list of things to watch for, and some help with the VIN... the only numbers he could pull off the car are the following, 77,000 km's on the car apparently, it looks it though.:Model #: KBNR32RXFS AAFS5R30A5C41BNR32-215531

heres a list of all the claimed upgrades:Tomei camsTomei suspension18" Contra Rims, with new Falken tirestwin plate clutchtrust oil coolerroll cagemomo steering wheelmomo pedals (very worn down)apexi electronic valve controlturbo timerN1 Headlightsboost controller (its grey with a blue screen, but i couldnt figrue out how to turn them on?)2x Recaro racing seats5 point safety harnesshuge exhaust from front to back, probably 4 inches, and 2 mufflers (for some reason??)

how ever at one point, after the Cat and before the pipe to the muffle the big pipe is cut out and replaced with a 2.5 inch THICKLY welded pipe? why??

im suspicious because of the limited information available...and looking under the car near the oil filter i saw somethign that looked like oil?

we went for a test drive and the steering wheel didnt sit straight while driving straight, it was skewed to the side a tad.. is this a problem? but handled well, sounded amazing, he never revved above 5k though.. so i cant tell if the turbos sound good at high pressure?

so a buyers guide/ VIN explanation would be VERY helpful please, im going for inspection on thursday, hes gonna do a full inspection of turbos, engine, leak down test, and engine compression test to 140 PSI...

The main thing I would be hesitant about is the modifications that you cannot see. The cams and clutch are probably the most expensive parts on the car after labor. Plus if the clutch is on the car, the condition could be suspect. Oil leaks from places near the oil filter occasionally due to removal of parts or a lack of a good seal, minor amounts would not bother me. I didnt think Tomei made any newer style suspension, is it a spring/shock combo or coilovers?

The exhaust is anyones guess, could have just been an exhaust shop special, or he may have bottomed out hard tearing into it. Or he could have had a resonator removed.

The steering wheel is ok if its off. It simply can be unscrewed and re-alligned in a matter of seconds.

The car is a Dec 1991 standard GT-R. It is not uncommon to find R32's with lower mileage because of their prestige and collectability.

The model number is the standard on most standard 8-1990 to 7-1993 GT-R's.

Lower milage cars really aren't that uncommon over here, which is essentially where the car came from. I bought my 90 Laurel in 04 and it had just turned 100k (62k Miles). I have owned it almost 4 years, and it only has 132K on it now. Cars don't get driven as much here as they do in the states. What most people do is just drive their cars on the weekends, like a weekend warrior type thing.

Low miles on a JDM car is a good thing. As long as the odo doesn't have the numbers all out of alignment, you are G2G.
