HELP Needed w/Infiniti Service Center 2008 EX35 AWD

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have had a rough time with my dealership. Took car in for an oil change and received call that transmission fluid was leaking, then call that it was coolant, then call saying it was oil cooler. It is a small radiator looking thing they said was leaking, damaged from a rock flying through grill. Don't holler at me but I paid to have it replaced. Then when I picked up my car my A/C didn't work. They kept car and now saying A/C compressor broke, another 1800 dollars. My car also had a recall for steering column that they were also to fix. I am not sure what to do but my simple question is this: If doing steering column work, would they be near the A/C compressor. Or would they be near that if replacing that oil cooler/small radiator looking thing?

Thank you.

While it's possible that the oil cooler legitimately needed to be replaced, it still seems that the dealer service department is still suspect.

1. In your case, there shouldn't be too much confusion between an oil, transmission fluid, and coolant leak. I'd really like to know the reason why they couldn't give you a straight answer up front. The dial on the BS meter is already starting to move here.
2. I'd bring the car somewhere else for the A/C work, someplace trustworthy. A/C work typically doesn't require a dealership service department. While it probably won't be cheap to fix, there's a good chance that it'll be less expensive than having a dealership do it. Also, the second opinion from a different shop won't be accompanied by the mistrust you already have with the dealer.
3. I'm not 100% sure, but I thought that the recall repair on the steering column is done from the interior of the car, and not from underneath. The steering column is located behind the engine, while the A/C compressor is up front.
4. I believe that the oil cooler is located in front of the radiator, and the radiator is in front of both the A/C compressor and engine. I haven't seen how an oil cooler replacement is done, but I can't see how doing that repair could cause collateral damage to an A/C compressor.

So I'd recommend to get a second opinion and see what they have to say. Good luck and please let us know what happens.

By the way, there is a chance that if a rock had taken out your oil cooler, it may have damaged the A/C condenser as well. If this was the case, the refrigerant would have leaked out. Either that, or the tech could have inadvertently damaged the A/C condenser when changing out the oil cooler.

Thanks NJGuy. I called Infiniti today and opened a case against the dealership. A regional rep will call me tomorrow but since I haven't gone in exactly every 3K miles I am not holding my breath that anything will be done. I kept the old oil cooler but not sure how to test it. The quoted repair for the A/C work was 1800 bucks. They have told me they will charge me 1100 as a show of good faith. I think it shows they f'ed up. My A/C worked 100% when I dropped it off, broken when I picked it up.
