Even though I didn't have any problems with my steering rack on my 1997 240sx, I went ahead and replaced it with a rebuilt one because I was doing major upgrades to my suspension. I have a complete steering rack for sale. The only thing needed is new boots for it.

When you replace a steering rack be VERY careful not to let the steering wheel turn or you will break the clock spring that controls the airbag. It will also disable your horn and cruise control if it gets broke and will light up the "check engine" light. It's not exactly easy to find a replacement clock spring either. They cost around $1000 new from Nissan.

I am selling my used steering rack for $110 shipped if your interested.

Call Touge Factory see if they can help you since your in ILL.

$300 sounds really steep, there is a place in socal that does it for $60 while you wait.
