Help needed - sunroof problems

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hey guys, new to the forum. Just signed up. Searched forum and could not find solution.
I own a 2008 ex35. Having problems closing and opening the sun roof. The motor vibrates when the open and close buttons are pushed but the sun roof won't open/close or tilt/close. Currently the sun roof is tilted open. Tried the reset procedure which didn't work for me. Can someone help me solve this problem ? Is there a way manually to close sun roof? I would like to fix it myself but it seems like I might have to take it in to the dealership to look at it. Currently on vacation with the car in CA so I need some pointers fast. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for helping the newbee.

I had a similar issue with a sliding & tilting moonroof, but it was on a different vehicle. My moonroof was also stuck open in tilt mode. One possible cause could be some debris that is obstructing the rails in the moonroof.

For me, it turned out that there was a small rock in one of the guide rails. The rock was at the front of the rail, and it blocked the upper portion of the guide assembly from fully moving forward (not allowing the moon roof to tilt back to the closed position). Luckily for me, I was able to get my moon roof to fully close first, and then to slide open so that I could get a real good look at the rails.

See first if you can get the moon roof to close by pushing on it a little while holding the close button. However, be VERY careful when pushing, as you may damage things. Once it's closed fully, try to retract it rearward all the way. Check the rails closely for any debris that blocks the rail assemblies from fully closing together.

If you still can't find anything, and are not comfortable with doing some electrical troubleshooting or disassembly, then I recommend that you take it to a shop. Good luck.
