So I seem to have a serious issue. I have two spots of rust developing, one is on the front left fender, where the bumper, fender flare and body meet. it seems to coming from inside the wheel well though, so I can't access it easily. and there is a few tiny chips that are beginning to rust.I need help guys! I don't know what to do! Should I just grab a touch up kit and cover it? Or should I think about investing in a paint job?

Also, I found a decent carpet cleaner from tutle wax designed for car interiors. Actually works pretty well!

Hmm, let's see.8 year old truck, driving in Canada with salty winters.Has it ever been rustproofed or oil sprayed? If not, then it's probably too late. The damage has already begun. You can touch it up, or even repaint it, but it won't last I'm afraid. It's rusting from the inside out, so it will be hard to stop.I would probably oil spray it anyway, just to slow down the rusting process.Good luck.

well for the chips I'd remove as much rust as possible with some sandpaper, and touch those up, stop them from spreading.

(Driver Side)(Passenger Side)

this is my biggest concern, its all rotten in there so my best bet is to find a new fender...with the door open you can see leaves and moisty dirt trapped underneath.I'm sure it would help if its cleanned everyonce in a while

Ive got the same issues but i am also rusting on the roof.

i think im going to pop off my fenderflares in the summer sand it down and try repainting that spot. gonna try to make it a real small spot so if the paint doesnt match it wont be too noticable.

No idea on what im going to do with my roof though.

Roger, i got the same rust spot on my front left bumper/fender...if you do a good job on yours ill shoot you some cash to do mine. fortunately i cant see the rust, its just bubbling paint

my rear hatch has two rust spots under the window, but i covered them up with rubber badding, completely hidden until i can get it painted. Im looking for an 01 qx4/pathfinder tailgate to put on instead but if i cant ill send it to a paint shop along with my hood that has some chips

believe it or not i posted a want ad on craigslist/kijiji looking for a shop to paint my rear hatch and someone with a body shop replied quoting 300-400 to cut out the rust, fill it, repaint, not bad

hey if you have the chance please steal the pic of my roof and ask for a qoute on that because i wont touch that and it needs to be fixed.

Careful with the bubbling it will just pop off with too much pressure. I saw the rust on mine when the hose took my bubbled paint right off.

You guys will all hate me, since my 2001 doesn't have a spec of rust...It has spent 4 winters in California, and it has been rust proofed by Krown 4 times as well. I highly recommend getting your cars rust proofed, even if the rust has already started. It will slow down the rust growth and lubricate everything nicely. Do it now before it gets hot out and makes the rust spread faster.

Yeah you're right, once a year is enough. I actually do mine every other year because of the lack of use.

Yeah, I've been hearing it was a bad winter up there, and that there are more potholes than ever before. Not looking forward to that...

Go get it oil sprayed while it's forming! It will slow down the process. Or at least go buy a can of it (you can get rust check at C.T.) and douse the area.

for surface rust, honey goo is a really good product, there is also amsoil heavy duty metal protector which to me is like the factory rust proof when it dries(i use this to prevent it, honey goo to stop or slow down rust)

also when u guys are washing ur cars especially in the winter and springs months, don't forget the underneath, around the fender are very important, run ur hand along the inner fender carefully to remove loose dirtreplace dirt with rust protectant of ur choice once dried completely,

also for our truck, from what i have seen personally, is in the rear fender where the gas filler neck runs down, take off plastic covering in wheel well u might see 1-2lbs of dirt, again replace with lubricant after its all said and done

one other trick i have seen is to put grease(wheel bearing or other) in the fender on the lip

p.s. roger ur windshield is probably worse than it seems, i had to replace the windshield on my other car, i had no surface rust what so ever, but when they took out the windshield, there was rust at the top part of the windshield seating area, i had to grind it down, fill with liquid metal, and re-clear my roof all for about $400

one other thing is that its better to rust proof ur car in the spring, the guy at krown told me so, the humidity is really what starts to get the ball rolling especially if u don't wash the underneath of ur car

I feel for you guys in areas with salty roads. Fortunately, I haven't had to deal with that.

AJRK - Are you rust proofing it in California? I was born and raised in northern California where we got constant rain and we never rust proofed our cars. However, if you got a nick in the paint you had to get on it ASAP.

No, I rust proofed it in Canada. I had my QX4 in California for 3 years, but now I'm leaving it up in Canada. I rust proofed it there when it was a year old, 3 years old and 5 years old. I'll be doing it again as soon as I get up there.

I don't think there are any rust proofing places in California, and to be honest, I dont think I've ever seen a rusty car here, not like in Canada at least. Definitely need to watch the chips though.

i went to this guy who has a body shop today and he told me to get all of the rust spots out and fix the roof its gonna cont like $600

He also said that ill have to get a new windshield because when they take it out, it might crack i have a tiny chip in it and he said that could be a factor which would cost me another $200.

is this a wack deal with the windshield i mean hes said it has a 1% chance of surviving the removal from the truck.

what do you think
