I bought 94 q45 with 119,000 miles a year back (ivory pearl with beige inside), current Mileage at 131,000.

These are the things I have done so far.

Immediately changed all fluids.

Front brake rotors (stillen cross drilled)Front brake pads (OEM)Fuel PumpWater pumpSpark plugs (120k service at Dealer)Fuel injectors (all 8 of them)

I would like to hear from you guys on some of the problems I am having with the car.

1)After Front brake job (I drove around 1500 miles on new front brakes). Braking is not smooth, when I apply brakes it gives me annoying squeak noise, same noise when take off foot from brake pedal. What is the problem you guys suspect? How to fix this?

2)After replacing all fuel injectors. I was driving back from dealer, while getting on highway merger there was not enough power, although I totally flooring the gas pedal, I was scared to hell where I was going to get rammed from back. I called the dealer and made appointment to look at the car. It’s been a week I am still driving the car although it is not that bad it was not like a V8 engine it used to be. Have anyone faced same kind of situation? Any suggestions

3) Chicago rush hour stop and go traffic, when I press break I could feel little shaking (may be I should say little shimmering), I could feel my hand placed on side panel. Any ideas what is causing this?

I love this car; I bought for 5k and put 5k in it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated to improve the ride quality and performance. What is the list of things I should be consider changing?

I buy parts from Joe (after getting info from this site) and service at lisle Infiniti. Without you guys abundant information I really doubt I could keep this car.

I am looking for front right fog light, is there any compatible fog light I can replace or I am better off sticking with OEM part. I am interested in buying if any one of our members has used one.

Many thanks.Sam.

Some folks are considering parting out a Q45 and you might be able to get a fog light there. Here's the thread:

The fog lights on the potential "part-out" car are spoken for, sorry :(.

The Stillen Metallic and Repco Metal Master Metallic pads are much noisier than oem U91 pads.

They offer an improvement over oem friction curve at 600-700F with a similar trade off in the below 100F range .......curve just shifted upward.

They will develop a stopping groan moan after a few 1,000 miles and the rotors will need resurfacing every 6,000 miles such are the down sides of redesigning oem brakes.

Did you use new factory shims on the pads?

Lack of power could be quite a few things. How does it idle? Smooth? It may be reasonable to request they do a power balance test...something they should do anyway to fix their mistake. Replacing all injectors probably cost over $2k alone.

Thanks for your info

I am not sure about shims? pads(OEM) and Cross drilled Rotors(Stillen) both i bought from Joe. I don't remember me buying shims Or Joe mentioning about shims?

AM i supposed to use new shims along with brake pads,

Ignore my knowledge on this stuff.

Injectors replacement costed me 1700 ( 1150 + 550).

If the shims are missing, worn, or malfunctioning, then they must be replaced and correctly mounted with reference to each axle.

I could have sworn I saw Metal master pads in your post [need new glasses?]

Did you replace or at least super clean the caliper pins.....clean the hubs and wheels insides so that the rotors are true not mounted on hubs which are out of spec.

I have no idea what the Firestone guys done when they did front brake job. Fist I was hesitant to give to them (Firestone). The guy whom I deal at Infiniti dealer suggested their price much higher and there was no point me spending that much when I can get done brake job outside (His explanation is, it is pretty simple job). Now I don't like the way it breaks. I am stuck with it.

You know Dennis I am seriously considering driving my car to Atlanta. Get it fixed one shot. What should I consider replacing/maintenance? See my original post about car details (mileage/replaced parts list).

Thanks

Don't get hasty, even though it is not a terrible drive.Since you just got dealer service [plugs, etc] they should have told you most things they found.

Dealer standard brake jobs may not be much better than Firestones...........your rotors could be warped out of the box or just haphazardly installed.

I would take it back to Firestone and raise Hell plus tell on service writer who turned down work..........or did you whine about the price and he felt sorry for you considering the injector cost....... See what happens when you try to do someone a favor .........without controlling the proceedure!

We never see injector failure in South so hard to comment on whether it was required or not.

I know one thing I would have insisted on changing every hose under plenum and the knock sensor and their harness at the same time [$700] to avoid paying labor again and again and again.

Take it to dealer and pay them 1 hour to look and list EVERYTHING they find wrong or weak........insist on their most experienced tech and give him $20 cash to incentives him to look HARD!

My service writer guy is great. i absolutely trust him. i service just thru him all the time. i do reward my service guy. As per him he puts the best guy on my car. But i don't know the real mechanic who is working on my car, the process is such that i won't have access to him. i would be glad to reward him. it is very small amount compare to the time and worry i have to go thru apart from appreciating the guy's work.

Please clarify me one thing.

"Changing every hose under Plenum and knock sensor and their harness"

Is it part of changing fuel injector labour cost? if it is i missed it( i will be taking car this coming tuesday to check the car again).

if not how many hours of labour it is going take?

what is the parts cost i am looking, if i order from joe?

I do all the work at dealer and parts from Joe. Atleast that way i am saving 30%.

Thanks.

When the plenum is removed, all the old, brittle, rotting from the inside hoses (and knock sensore) are exposed. Taking the plenum off and on is a four hour job.

Hoses from Joe (all of them, not just the kit) is ~$440.

Cleaning and lubricating the caliper pins, shims, hub faces, and adjusting the parking brakes is part of a competent brake job. It is just not a tear 'em off, slap 'em on process.

Were the new rotors larger than the old rotors? I have heard and been witness to a friend having a shimmy and vibrations because of something that wasn't done to compensate for the larger rotors. Problem is I don't know what that was, but somebody here might know.

A rash of warped stillen rotors right out of the box has be reported by the Nissian dealership here in my area as well.
