My front bumper cover has two circular holes where a license plate holder is supposed to be mounted. One of the holes already has a female-threaded metal piece magically stuck (not sure how) behind it, while the other is missing one. The holes are located in the middle of the bumper cover as depicted below (this isn't my bumper, just a random pic i found for illustration purposes).

1)How do I make one of those threaded metal pieces that go behind the bumper cover holes?2)How do I properly "stick" it behind the bumper cover?

Thanks

I had the same problem, what I ended up doing was on the one that has the nut plate missing, I used along sheet metal screw (about 1-1.5 inch length) that would screw into the structural foam underneath the bumper. Before screwing it in, I took a tube of silicone (any one of the blue, black, clear, etc. 'gasket-maker' type will work fine) and injected as much as I could into the hole, coat the screw with some silicone, then attach the license plate with the screw. Dont attempt to tighten the screw much, it will just eat at the foam inside. Do this in the evening and let it dry overnight, the silicone will act as an anchor for the screw and it will be plenty tight. I did this almost a year ago and mine is still tight as can be.

is the bumper exactly the same as what you're trying to mount to? if it is see the metal clips higher up than where you have pointed out? thats where the l/p should be mounted to. the bumps are there to support the l/p out away from the bumper so it will not wear groves in the bumper.

Thanks. Yes, I am aware that license plates are screwed onto the metal clips of a license-plate-holder. But, my problem is how-to-mount the license-plate-holder onto the bumper (which has the holes but is missing one threaded metal piece).

If I can't find find a solution that involves making a metal threaded piece, then I might very well have to try this.

Thanks for the input!

Anyone else?

i donno man, i kinda have the same problem i guess... my right screw wont screw in past a cm or so and the left screw goes straight through without screwing and pops right out... so i might try the silicon idea... we'll see what's up...
