i am in Okinawa, have a CA almost apart, except for the crank

the timing cog wont come off, so i cant get the oil pump off and cant drop the crank out

how in the world do you get that little biscuit out (thats holding the cog in)

i already stripped and shipped one, but the oil pump was destroyed in the process... i would like to keep this one,

and i am have 1 day left to finish this, if you have any suggestions (sofar about a dozen people at the garage have tried, and we are all stumped)

boost boy? how do you do it?please let me know

Hi,

Here is how I usually do it and I haven't yet destoryed one.

Get a tourch, and heat up the crank sprocket, don't put direct heat on the crank, just go in a circular motion with the heat on the sprocket, then with two crow bars, stick them behind the sprocket and force it out, you need to put some force back and forth from one crow bar and then on the other.

It helps if you have some one to either hold the tourch and heat the sprocket while you do your work with the crow bars.Good luck,

If you're lucky pulsar's method will work for you. A lot of us (myself included) have had to resort to drilling two holes 180 degrees apart in the sprocket and whacking it carefully with a cold chisel until it broke off. Good news is its not too expensive to replace.

Take 2 flathead screwdrivers that just barely fit, insert them behind the sprocket on both sides, spray the sprocket with either PB blaster or WD-40 and methodically pound at the screwdrivers with a hammer until the sprocket is free. I recently removed that sprocket twice to pull the crank, so i know this method works as well. Good luck........

if its anything like mine, it wont come off as easily as everyone has said. it took drilling and tapping some large holes in the sprocket and getting some high-strength bolts to go in them. then youll need to take a 1/4in steel plate and drill 2 holes in it. put the plate across the front of the crank and thread the bolts through into the holes in the plate and into the holes in the pulley. just keep tightening them down until the pulley breaks free.

when i did mine, it bent a 1/8in steel plate that we tried first, and stretched the little high-strength bolts we started with. by the way, these were 190,000psi arp bolts. we had to use some 1/8in bolts (might have been bigger actually) and a 1/4in steel plate. the sound it made when it broke loose was ear-piercing and the pulley cracked in half. the torch/crowbar thing didnt work, and i went through several very substantial flathead screwdrivers before we went with the bolt/plate method.
