Both my TCS & Slip lights are on so I took my 94a down to my local mechanic. He tells me that the TCS problems are linked to my TPS. Anyhow he's telling me that they'll need to disassemble the dash to get to some of the components to test them.

Does this sound right? I read several TCS problems an no one mentioned having to get behind the dash to fix anything.

problem number 1....

Check your TCS codes.... ITs all in the FSM, ive done it before.... Basically when the enigne is running, you count the blnks on an LED in the trunk..... if you need the pages i think i can get them for you.... Its in the BR section, look for self diagnosis in the TCS thing.

If its the TPS or more likely the secondary TPS, you can fix it yourslef. let us know what code its pulling and we'll tell you waht the problme is.

My guy says he's getting a code 13 and that he thinks that the ABS actuator (he says it's burried in the dash 5 hr job) needs replacement. Says this part is $900.00 -

Does this sound right?

Did he pull the codes from the TCS control unit (in the trunk like stated earlier) or the TCM (throttle control module), which is located behind the dash...... it makes a difference...

Either way, code 13 for either module deals with the secondary throttle opening circuit... Which IMO most likely means the secondary throttle motor is bad....

Im going to have to do some more studying in the FSM which I am working on right now, but heres the basic outline. Unfortunately code 13 is one of the more complex codes, and according to the 1994 Q45 FSM that I have, the following DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES are all applicable to code 13 of the TCS control unit or TCM

10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,18,20,21,22,23,25,27,29,31

Im going to read over those tonite and see if I can come up with something more conclusive.... Feel free to buzz me tonite at 765-621-8336 if you want me to help a little further.....

Don't know for certain - he said he's following the flow chart in the service manual.

what hes having you probably replace is the TCM located in the dash.... these older nissan electronics hardly EVER fail, and the ones that are prone to fail are in easy to access locations!!!

After I do some more reading, i bet that it turns out to be the throttle motor.... more plausible than the TCM or TCS control unit.
