I have a KTS coilovers on my '95 S14 and I feel that the spring rate combo that came with the coilovers is a bit too stiff. Basically, the fronts have 448 lb/in and the rear have 336 lb/in. For discussion sake, let's say 450/350. The car skitters around rough corners and this doesn't do well in autox where the surface is rougher than near-perfect surface at the tracks.

Now, I'm looking for suggestions as what spring rates that will work better. I want to try moving the rear springs to the front and use 275 lb/in for the rear. Anyone used this combo (350/275) before ? How about putting half of the original rates, i.e. 225/175 ?

Inputs are highly appreciated.

from little amount of knowledge that i have...the question about the going w/ a softer spring rate, you would have to consider the dampening will be too much for the softer springs...especially if you are going w/ half the rate you are at now. i wouldn't stray too far from the original spring rates.

did you adjust the dampening on that track? (more softer setting...)

just my 2 cents....hope this helps...

Reducing damping at the current condition will create a car that's even more unstable (creating an underdamped condition). The shocks/struts are individually adjustable, so they can be adjusted to conform with the new rates. Besides, I like cars that are overdamped.

i think what he meant was the valving on the dampers will not operate as efficiently as they would equipped w/springs they were valved for. since you have a lot of spring rate maybe consider using less of a rear bar. the stiff springs are obviously providing plenty of roll resistance. just unhook the bar and see how it feels. by using a smaller rear bar you get more independant action in the suspension.
