Well, I just discovered the problem on my 93' Q45 isn't a torque converter. The rubber dampeners between the transmission's output shaft and the driveshaft have basically fallen apart and it's causing the bolts holding them together to shake loose. I've torqued the bolts back down and that temporarily stopped the vibration, but with no dampener, I'm pretty sure the bolts will just shake loose again soon.

Does anyone know where I can find just that rubber piece? The only thing I can get from Nissan-Infiniti is the whole upper driveshaft, which comes with the mount. But that's $545.51 and come on....

Buy a used driveshaft from a junkyard and take your chances.

Since the driveshaft has intenal dampening foam it is balanced as a unit [non repairable]...............common to replace them every 120k or so.

After year of bad experiences no driveline shop will touch them.

There are always a few companies around who sell redesigned 1-2 piece replacement shafts,,,,,,,,,,,,usually not a sperfect as oem.

$550 is cheap especially since it will last 9-12 more years.

Powertrain Industries makes a replacement Q45 driveshaft. There's also some good detail in this thread:

I could get you a driveshaft? Pulled one out of a 93 Saturday. Where are you located?

Christ, I should've known.....

If I can remember what I saw, that was a two-piece driveshaft. I'm guessing since it's all balanced together from the factory, the driveshaft(s) are sold as one.

I for sure want bushings and bearings in as good as shape as possible. AlabamaDan, if what you've got is in good enough shape, let me know. Right now I'm located in Arkansas, but I live in Dothan, Alabama. I'll be back in Alabama next week (maybe), but I could be shipping off for Navy basic before the end of the month. Or it could be Feb. 19th, 2008. Kinda' complicated, I'm afraid. If I'm still home next month, I'll get the driveshaft you've got, if everything is in good working order and you've still got it. What's the best way for me to contact you if I can get that driveshaft?

Thanks for the facts, Tech. I should've known it was all balanced together and I don't want to take any chances with it. She's gonna' be a turbo project soon.

i would HIGHLY suggest getting a driveshaft from PTI. If you tell them that you're a shop theyll give it to you at wholesale instead of retail...

Ive had a PTI driveshaft in my Q for 2 years and its wonderful... Its got replaceable U joints and stuff like that, so its actually not a bad deal for the long run.

Can I say "Been there done that?"

Sounds like you're describing the guibos at the very tip of the driveshaft... I have plenty of them at home but they are worth a damn since once removed from the shaft, they lose balance. Thats why many times you see paint on the bolts as a marker. The service manual actually tells you not to mess with em. You have to get everything in one piece. I'd advise you to hold out for a 94'-96' shaft as they have beefier centerline bearings (something else you need to worry about). The 90-93 bearings are puny and tend to rot. Sorry, I sold all I had, but my post is pretty descriptive so I included it.

I can get a driveshaft from a 93. I looked at those rubber bushing things and thought they looked ok. How do you ship something heavy like that. I'm thinking freight, but I've never done that.
