Hi everyone I'm new and owner of a nice 1998 Infiniti i30.

I took my car to a local reputable mechanic and he told me the computer is bad (cylinder 6 is misfiring because the ECM is not sending enough voltage or something like that).

To replace the ECM, it will cost me around $1,400. It is just too much for me at the moment. So I have no other option but to buy an used ECM.

I was searching online to find used ECMs and I found some on eBay for sale. The seller guarantees the ECM is in good working condition.

If I buy this ECM, what precautions should I take when replacing it? It is difficult to replace? Will I need to reprogram the ECM? Will it be compatible with my 1998 Infiniti i30? The ECM for sale was taken from a 1998 Nissan Maxima and the seller says it works with 1998 Inifiti i30s

Thanks for your time and help! I appreciate it!

Take a look on http://www.car-parts.com. As you will see there are a multitude of variations.

You might want to get a second opinion or research the problem. I had a similar problem(cylinder 2 & 3 misfire) and everyone kept saying it was the ECU, and then the wiring harness, but both my stock and T/S ECU had the same problem(highly doubtful that both would be bad)...did a little bit of research, and found out that the timing was off by a tooth or two.

I would suggest finding someone with a 95-98 Maxima or Infiiniti and see if the problem continues when you switch out the ECU. If so, I have a 98 ECU that I can sell you....its a 5speed ECU though.
