Hi, been experiencing some weird problems with my S13 (auto transmission) recently.

1. if i throttle hard from stand still the gear seems to be slipping (not sure if this is the correct term) whereby the revs would go freely about and as if the gearbox is trying to catch up (the revs does not match the torque that I used to get!), which it eventually does.

2. going at 60mph with fixed throttle, I can feel the car not going as smooth as it should like the gear engages and disengages.

3. sometimes when on OD, it drops back to 3rd occasionally and then back to OD. Sometimes it just stays on 3rd after it dropped from OD until I come to a slow speed (back to 2nd gear) and speed up again, then it recovers.

I just had my fluid flushed half a year ago....with synthetic. I understand that the S13 auto boxes are supposed to use mineral oil??? Or am I wrong?

Appreciate any advice you will have to give! This kind of driving problems give me the creeps.. Thanks..

the AT level looks normal. Fluid doesn't smell burnt or anything and it still looks pink, from the dipstick.

The trans has done 135k miles to date. It has never been changed before.

Was thinking of changing to a reconditioned one but am not sure how good or how long that will last me...

Just want to make clear that its some some electronics or sensors at fault before I go in an spend the cash on a reconditioned transmission.

Ideas? Thanks.

if the fluid is not burnt it could be that the fluid has insufficent friction. but that would have been noticed within a few minutes/hours/days of the flush.

is the od off light flashing?

you could try getting a flush with the recommended fluid [not sure on the s13].

slipping in an auto is certain death for the unit.

If the transmission is slipping upon hard launch, then the clutch pack or bands may be worn.

The ATF and the filter should be changed at least every 30,000 mi.

The transmission jumping out of OD and back to 3rd and then jumping back to OD is most likely due to a bad spot on the TPS internal resistance strip. This can't be repaired; replace it with a NEW TPS unit from a Nissan dealer; don't buy one from a junk yard!
