....hey folks...This is my first post as a "new" member. A little background before my question. I am a retired Airline Mechanic (turbine specialist)....67yrs old and was gifted a 2004 Quest with 188kmiles. My daughter just retired from the U.S.Coast Guard as a Lt. Commander (helicopter pilot), and she didnt like me driving a 1978 Chev 4x4 as a "daily-driver". Anyway.......(it has been flawless since I got it..6months ago). Two days ago I crank-it-up and it wont go faster than 20mph, or so......then it gradually gets back to "normal , regarding throttle response. It has a 3.5l . Tonight, I pull out of the drive (engine not yet warmed up), I get about 2 boocks away and the engine quits. Stop, put in park, it starts right up, BUT, back to the 20mph thingy. This time, it never responded to "normal throttle inputs until about 10 minutes.later...... I have avoided COMPUTERIZED ANYTHING.........with the exception of a FADEC that turbine engines have, and the associated avionics /engine control computers. ANYWAY, this automotive caveman(computerwise) has only TWO guesses concerning my problem.......1) Throttle-position sensor......2) fuel pump taking a dump and triggering some limp-mode thingy????? Help!!!! I know we have preferences, but as far as vehicles go, I'm hopelessly old-school. No problem with a computer that can keep a jet engine running at 540mph for 13 hours continuous..........but I dont know what to do here.......thanks for any input IdahoBob

Welcome aboard, Bob!

First off, we want to pull any codes. I'll assume you know where the OBD port is, so if you have a reader, you can use an app called Torque (on any smartphone) to read the codes.

188k is pretty high mileage, and you may find it needs more work than it's worth, but let's see what the computer tells us before jumping out the window.

Also, we have the FSM for that vehicle at www.nissanservicemanuals.com

We'll be here 'til she's fixed!

P0340 is the camshaft sensor - common problem. There are a zillion posts on the web about this one. Quests (and the other Nissans with this engine) have three sensors that are worth replacing between 100K-120K pre-emptively. Two are are on top of the engine and one is down on the trans. Yours is for one of the top sensors - the code and full message will tell you which one. Do them both.
