HELP!! my HUD is malfunctioning!!

my HUD is acting funny. I just bought my 240sx from someone, its a 1990 coupe 5 speed.The gauges arent working properly. The speedometer doesnt work and neither does the tachometer, and the needle in the fuel gauge keeps droppin and rising, one moment its way over the full mark, and next its half full.

Could someone please tell me if its the HUD thats broken or the cluster? And what do i have to buy/do to fix it?

Mine had the same problem. The circuit boards get dry-rotted and they work funny. pop the dash apart and find where the wiring harness gets soldered to the pcb in the back of the dash. Re solder it and it MAY come back to life. Mine never worked again and i just didn't use it, had an after market tach and thats all i needed.

well, i think i have the analog and not digital one. My speedometer doesnt work either. The needles dont even move. Only thing that moves is the fuel gauge. Even though its analog, can thw wirings still pose a possibilty that it might be the cause of the HUd screweing up? anyways thanks alot for the info

it does sound like the HUD is malfunctioning, but the gas gauge and such could be a loose or bad connection. you can check to see if it is malfunctioning and repair it. just follow the link.

also if you dont want to repair it you can swap in the analog cluster. just make sure you get the harness and the right cluster. SOHC cluster for SOHC, and same for DOHC.

actually, my dash doesnt have an HUD lol sorry. I thought the whole dash was called an HUD, thats what i alwyas referred it as.

My whole dash is analog, including the speedometer. My signal lights and everything works fine, and the water temp and gas needles work, just that they go crazy. Analog speedo and tach doesnt work

Is there anyway i can fix it? Or do i have to go buy a new cluster and replace the whole thing?
