So I have an 83 Skyline with the FJ20ET in it and here's what it does. It's hard to start and will give a cough or two and then fire up. All the way up to about 4k rpm. It will hang there for a few seconds then slowly drop to about 2k and hover around there. It's a bit better when it's warmed up but its pretty much the same thing. Also it won't idle because the RPM never drop down to idle levels. And the throttle response is quite sluggish. At 2k rpm I goose it and it takes full second to a second and a half to make any kind of response. Here's the things I have tested

Throttle position sensor works fine (Not sure of the input voltage though)Maf sensor works fine (Again, not sure what imput voltage should be)Fuel pressure is good

Any help would be great. (Maybe a certain disgruntled theorist will stop by and help me out) Thanks in advance

Glad to see you again, Doc!

Lemme see if I can get you some help in here.

Alternatively, just slap some stamps on it and address it to Phoenix, AZ.

You check out the iacv yet? The voltage readings off the tps also? either one could be triggering the high idle.

Those would be my first two suspects.

So my TPS and MAF sensors checked out fine as well as my coolant temp sensors. The new theory is a dead injector. I got it idling and pulled injectors one by one and the only one that didn't change anything was the number three injector. I think It's stuck open because it runs rich (exhaust smells rich) at idle and if I give even a tiny bit of throttle (letting it have a gulp of air) it revs to almost 4k and then drop back down after a second or so.

So how do I test injectors? I checked and they all have the same resistance, they all get full 12 volts while running and they all click when jumped to the battery.

Also if anyone has any other ideas the help would be greatly appreciated. (Thanks 180fan. If my car has a IACV I can't find it. )

Are you sure you dont have an Idle Air control Valve because that is what it sounds like to me also.!
