Hey Guys, took my car into get major service/dyno'd today and to get my new Fujita intake installed. They said on the dyno with the new intake on, the car lost 10 kw than with the stock intake on, and that it was running too lean. They said I'd need to get a new ECU chip which would cost around $1700.

Any ideas? Why would this be happening?

How long was the intake on the car?

Lean means too much air. So the intake is working, maybe you just need to wait for the ECU to learn to add more fuel.

Well, I didnt install it, I got them to. I was concerned that they may not have reset the ECU (i always thought you had to unplug the battery after installing parts) or that they had f'd up the MAF.

Well it dyno'd at 167KW (around 225 HP). Not what I was expecting, thought stock's at least hit 230 HP, and this was with the stock intake, so with the F5, it was 10 KW less.

Also, they put in 5W-40 instead of the regular 10W-30. It Summer here, you think it'll be ok?

I don't know man I'm not a big fan of dyno's.

My last car was a 5050lb 4 door Hemi Ram. When I had it dynoed it was running 14.5's at 95/96 mph. The dyno said I made 269 RWHP. There is no way a 5050 lb vehicle can run a 14.5 with only 269 RWHP. I had about $4,000 in go fast mods. It was a club dyno day and a stock Hemi put down 255 rwhp? The stock Hemi said he was running 15.5's. There is no way 14 hp would make me a full second faster.

I don't gauge performance off dyno's. I would use a dyno for tuning if you had a turbo or supercharger.

Take it to the track and run it with and without the Fujita. I bet your faster with it and that is what matters!

Okay now you don't know what your talking about. The 2007 G35s have two sets of plastic tubing that bring air from in front of the grill and below the front bummer to the fujita intake.

Yes, but the Fujita are an open filter intake... Not enclosed in a heat shield like the OEM intake... So it's a hot air intake.. Especially when the hood is closed.

There may be some circulation but it's mostly HOT AIR...

The 2 vents for the OEM intakes works fine because it's enclosed. Which is why the OEM intake is already a cold air intake. All you have to do is replace the restrictive OEM filter with a high flow filter.

Hot air intakes don't make any sense.

So you really think that the factory filter housing keeps the air going into the engine any cooler than an aftermarket, open element design? I would think that the OEM enclosure would trap heat and raise the temp...maybe even more.

The open element filter design will benefit more when the car is moving, as fresh air will be circulated.

So, can I get some educated opinions, is it ok if I stick the intake on for a week for general daily driving if its running lean?

Is running lean really a bad thing? Will the ECU correct this issue? Will re-setting the ECU (unplugging the negative battery terminal) allow the ECU to adapt to the new intake?

I knew the dyno would be lower then what the car actually outputs, considering its the middle of summer here (ambient temp was 30c in the workshop) and the car obviously gets alot less air on a dyno.

So, is it ok to run lean or will it mess with my engine?

drive it, your ECU will self tune itself a bit and add fuel, and lean isnt bad as long as your not too lean. lean is actually good to a extent

Well, its Summer here, and avg temps are around 30-32 c in the day.

I will probably just re-install it, reset the ECU and see what happens.

wtf are you people talking about? the OEM enclosed intake don't trap heat. haha

It's enclosed in plastic... If anything, your shiny aluminum piping trap more heat. Touch the OEM plastic after running your car.. It cool to the touch.. Now touch your shiny aluminum intake.. Warm to the touch.

The oem intake takes in cooler air then any short ram intake period.

Which is why Comptech made an aftermarket intake simular to most OEM intake. Called the Comptech Ice Box.

Notice how it's enclosed. You won't see a open-end shortram intake such as the "fujita" intake named ICE or Cold... For a reason. It takes in hot/warm air.

All the short ram does it some kid of noise when you push it. That can cause a placebo effect and make your Butt Dyno feels "Fast".

I don't know but you can't argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I'm just going to ignore him and hope he goes away. He doesn't know what hes talking about but your never going to change his mind.

I agree with the arguing thing....I like this analogy:

When they dynod your car. Did they put a fan the front of your car? You have the intake but that needs air if they did not put a nice big fan to blow air to your intake that would be why.
