That sucks man. The club is just a false sense of security though. The steering wheel can easily be cut with a hack-saw, or reciprocating saw, right next to the club at the top of the wheel. The wheel can then be bent slightly at the top, allowing the club to be removed easily. If someone wants to steal your car that badly, the club will not stop them. Well I guess in broad daylight, in a busy area it might deter someone, but the latter is a much better idea.
I agree with installing a "kill switch" for your fuel pump, and for your battery under your hood if you're really worried. One of my buddies wired a fuel pump switch on his civic. He used a power mirror switch for it, to keep an oem look, and to not make it obvious by reaching under the dash or another hidden spot. He has no power mirrors in his hatchback, but nobody has ever noticed.
