like the topic states... evil evil motor mounts. I was trying to take them out but they wouldn't budge. I've been working on them for two days now. I sprayed PB Blaster repeatedly over the bolts for two days worked on 'em and let 'em soaked and so on. Then i used a cheap torch i have to try and heat the bolts and get them to loosen... eventually i rounded the nut and so now i have no way of getting the mount off. My friend brought over a ghetto grinder and we cut the mount with the rounded nut in half and tried pounding the bolt out from the other side but it isn't going so well. Can someone PLEASE help me! Is there some easy way to do this that i'm missing out on. I think i'm gonna freak out.

*Update* Well i finally got ahold of a sawzall or whatever... lovely little things. After about 8 blades and a couple hours later both the motor mounts are off! Now i'm just conscerned about two things... one is i kinda shaved the crossmember thingy where the mounts bolt to. Should i worry about rust? Should i paint it with something to protect them from rusting out? I also went a little overboard on the last mount and cut a little into it. I've got pictures.. i'll put 'em at the bottom of the post.

mine's the passenger side bolt. i'm too afraid to try and loosen the driver's side one. The steering rack and whatnot is in the way.

might be too late now but, try impact tools next time?

a nice 350-450ft-lb'er at max output and a bit more than spec pressure can do amazing things.. and if you've got the money a 1000ft-lb'er is just silly powerful.

or if you dont have access to impact tools leverage is your friend, 20" 1/2drive breaker bar with a 3' cheater pipe usually does the trick

Yup, I used a 2" 14mm socket and a 4" extension and a cheater bar on the ratchet. Works like a charm.

yeah, just be carefull using a cheater pipe with a ratchet, you *may* break the teeth inside, if you can get a breaker bar that would be the best

yea i tried the impact, that didnt work. next a breaker bar with a 4 foot cheater bar, that didnt work, short of cutting it, i had no choice, the breaker bar rounded the nut.

yeah, i used a breaker bar as well and i just rounded the nut... by the way, how are you guys fitting an impact up there? I can't even get a socket all the way on the bolt without taking off the power steering rack and i really don't feel like doing that. unless of course if i absolutely have to

How about welding the rounded nut to the socket and then trying the breaker bar again with a big cheater? After hiting it with your favorite penatrating oil of course. costs you a socket, but I've gotten bolts out that way that refused to come out any other way I could think of.

i just used a cutoff wheel, it was tight, but i got a worn cutoff wheel up there, and zipped the bolt and nut right off, then used a hammer and chisel to get the mount freed, it was siezed to the crossmember.

A cutoff wheel that you would use on a air cutter.

damn... i thought that's what you meant. unfortunately i have no air tools and know no one with air tools who would have free time to stop by with some and a compressor to help me out.

thats the best way. I usually JB weld that crap on there, and go for it again in the morning, works everytime

Air tools. We removed the downpipe, and hit it with a breaker bar then when we decided that we still didn't ahve enough room we busted out the air ratchet. Fun.

everything isn't so easy when you have little time, little money and limited tools and space to work with. regardless, they're out.

Well 2 things, mine came off with NO effort (makes me feel good about my car :(). Next, Why did you guys try removing the mounts from the block instead of getting those bolts out... its harder to put back in and align but thost bolts are easier to remove. Also, did you guys hook a hoist to the motor to try to loosen stress on it?

the engine was out when i was taking the motor mounts out. i'm putting new ones in. and what bolts are you talking about? All there was on mine was two nuts on each mount. One on the bottom holding the mounts on the car and a bolt on top holding the engine on. The bolts on top came off with my hand, which was a little scary. Also explains why the engine would shake so much at idle. I'm kinda lost in what you are trying to explain.. sorry.

i believe hes talking about removing the brackets from the engine block, but that doesnt really help when trying to replace the motor mounts, and imo its easier to remove 2 nuts than like 8 from the block.
