So i have a 1990 nissan 240sx with 200,000+ miles and we have caged it and are racing it at our local track. The other day it was running fine then coming off corner let of gas to slow down and motor shut completly off and started to smoke and smelt like burning oil. Tryed to restart and it would not. It will crank but sound different then normal. we checked it for spark, compression, fuel, fuses, and everything seemed fine. Motor cranks smooth still but will not fire. Anyone have any ideas of what this could be? Ive heard a few poeple say timing but not to sure.

Glad to see another circle track racer on here.

You said it sounds different when you try to start it. I would start by tracking down the new sound and figureing out where it came from.

Double check ALL engine electrical connections. Track driving is about the worst you can do to a motor. Turn on runn like h@@l turn off, sit for a while then repeat fo rthe main event then let sit for a few days waiting for hte next race.

Most likely there is a sensor that has become dissconnected or a vacume line that let go.

We are swapping the motors and when we looked in the air intake there was oil and water.. What does that mean?
