Well I got the 10mm allen socket I needed today to pull my head off so I did it (with a 3/8ths drive it sucked)

But I got it off and took a look at the "water" I saw ontop of piston 3 and 4. Well I think it wasn't just water looked like some kind of fungus was living there LOL. I cleaned them out though and it looks better now, but idk what to do. I'm scared the rings are gonna be bad.

I couldn't do a compression test or a leakdown test to test the cylinders.

I don't know if I should just replace the gasket seal it up and hope for the best or spend a lot more money and time to do a full rebuild.

Also another question. Are the head bolts TTY bolts? Do I need to replace them?

It was probably sitting outside in japan. The place I got it from took it out of the big *** trailor thing and put it on the shelf. Then I bought it a few days later.I'm pretty sure there was no water in the spark plug holes.I took the plugs out and looked inside 3 and 4 and could see a reflection of the light so I was like wtf. Then I shook it and could see it was liquid

I'd clean and lube the cylinder walls and run it. Have you drained the oil or pulled the plug in the oil pan? Make sure there is no more water hiding in the crank case.

Alright glad you agree. I was afraid all I would hear is do a full rebuild.

But yeah I def will be draining the oil. I havn't yet because it's sitting on the ground, but I could pick up the short block with a friend now and set it on something to drain it.

Is it possible to take off the front cover to readjust the timing chain? My discolored links don't line up with the makrs on the cam gears, and prob not the crank either.

NO DON'T DO THAT! lol. It doesn't matter if the links don't line up. As long as the the crank pully is at tdc and the marks on the cam gears are in the right spots, your golden.

Alright I'll leave it alone then lol. grr I hope this thing works. Will it be okay to reuse the head bolts? I checked the threads and there was no sign of damaged threads and they didn't look stretched not that I would really be able to tell anyway though

I don't believe the head bolts are tty. If they are not corroded, I would reuse them. Wire wheel the threads and under the bolt head.

Alright I'll give it a shot then. What should I use to clean the deck/head surface from where the gasket was? I took all the thick stuff off with a razor blade, but should I use a scotch bright pad or somthing to get it cleaner? I don't want to put the deck out of specs or anything

Use a red scotch brite and just take what ever is left by hand. Be very careful and take your time. Check or have the head's deck checked for warpage. It my need decked.

check the length of the head bolts, in the FSM it states that they can be re-used if they are not stretched too much. i wouldnt re-use them anyway replace them or use studs

since u have the motor all torn apart, you might as well hone the cylinder walls, and put in new rings, main bearings, and rod bearings, it would be dumb not to at this point.

Yeah, it's hard not to. I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I just want this thing running right now, but after I get it running I'm gonna wanna start making more power, so it seems logical to take it step by step and just spend the extra 1000 bucks and build the block.. wish I had a job lol
