help me! YES i searched like a madman for 2 weeks now, smoking at manifold!?!

OK, my engine idles at roughly 800k-1000k ...nothing changes much when i try to adjust the idle screw, and when its idleing the engine is shaking more than it should be, and i have smoke coming out from the manifold, and obviously billowing out the exhaust as well, just white smoke, smells like fuel. Checked coolant and oil, both look fine, normal color and normal smell. Checked maf, no leaks, voltage looks good too. What the hell is causing this?!? oh, timing seems to be ok too, i adjusted it to stock 20btdc.

Ok, did one last thing, checked plugs ...they were black, like black black, 3rd cylinder plug had actual oil on it, wtf happened to my poor little ka!?!

somke is coming from the exhaust manifold right? did you check your valve cover gasket? is it dripping oul at all? how long do you run the engine for? have you checked the egr valve? I had the same problem and it was a combanation of all these things.

So a combo of your valve cover gasket, and your egr valve!? Hmm ..i can honestly say i havent checked either! Valve cover doesnt seem to be leaking, but it never hurts to change it right, and ill definitely check out the egr. I would just start it and run it for maybe 1 minute at a time, maybe a few times a day, just trying to figure out the oil issue, it hasnt been driven in months! ...and yes, it is leaking from the manifold, right where it bolts to the engine, you can actually see the smoke rising from there, and its making it way all the way through the exhaust and out, and you can see where the manifold bolts to the exhaust, oil is coming from there too, so its a pretty decent amount being lost here ...crap!

sounds like the cylinder in question has rings no more. Does the engine build pressure in the head, say you remove the oil fill cap and put your hand over it, it would puff air when the bad cylinder fires.... needs a rebuild.

Yes it does smell like gas actually ...kinda burns the eyes if i get too close ..and ill try that oil cap test as well to see what happens. I away from the car now until monday sometime, ill do all this stuff then. Also, what exactly am i looking for when i look at the egr valve!? anything in particular? Jesus ..just the thought of a rebuild has my stomach churning, all stressed now Why on earth would something that serious just give out on me like that!

well it coudl be just worn out. Are you the original owner? even if an old lady owned the car, she may have neglected the car, for example: my father in law buys a new car every 2 years(always a fugly arse f150 v6) and does not change the oil, his wife gets a new car every 4~5 years(yeah they have flow but not me), this time its a 500 with just now 15k on the clock and the shyt has NEVER had an oil change, his is well over 30k without oil change and lots of hauling/towing shyt(my car used to randomly die alot...), yeah its still under low mileage or whatever but the internals are fvcking after oil breaks down it breaks your motor.

now I have this feelign you motor was beat on or poorly taken care of. try pulling the exhaust mani off and touch the inside of the port in question, if your finger gets burnt oil funk on it....

and the smelling like gas is another sign of bad things, its what MADE me swap to de so soon. It was unbearable to sit in the car at a light or stop sign, and that wasnt ok for my kid so it wasnt ok for me.

Well ..i was looking at this spark plug diagnosis page online(http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/tech ... gnosis.htm), and it said the black carbon build and/or oil on my plugs ... "Can be caused by many different conditions. Carbon deposits build up when the plug fails to fire correctly and burn them off. Air/fuel mixture too rich, choke stuck on, electrical problem, extended periods of low speed driving, plug heat range too cold. All should be investigated" ....so, do you think it might be from not actually driving my car? it has been sitting for just short of 4 months now, i just turn it on and let it idle for seconds at a time trying to figure **** out ...i dunno, just a thought!?

Oh, and one laaaast thing ...this car has friggin 56k miles on it guys, and its an unmolested ka24de 5speed ...which is why im just extremely confused here!! The guy i bought it from was the second owner, he only had it for like 8 months and ended up needing money so it had to go, i picked it up for $5k!! So im just wondering why this is happening. Anyways, if i cant fix this thing, and i know i might get flamed for this, but i might just sell it as it stands and go sr .. ..my sisters fiance just did the swap by himself in like 2 days, thats with pulling the ka out too! Any ideas ...anyone!? help ...please ...

another Ka would be way cheaper than getten' a sr. and think... you could do all that in one day

I wont flame you but your comparing two diff things another ka is 500 tops with transmission ... an sr swap with EVERYTHING needed is much more unless you have a jdmtyte hook up. I dont, I blew a ka and replaced it with another for 400 dollars including transmission/ecu/harness/maf/coil/rad/fan(s)/hoses/ all stuff on the motor. Then if your wanting to get some power I'd say a few hundred and boost the ka, a vac gauge should be cheap and effective at telling if the motor is even worth boosting, if your not getting around 20 vac(idle) its in rough shape.... and the ka at same boost as sr will make more power(if tuned right) sr makes 205chp stock boost n/a ka makes 155chp 7psi on that isnt 155 anymore

Good point good point ...in the meantime though, i hate to junk this motor, or sell it ..whatever. Id like to at least try and fix it before going and getting another one! I was told to check the egr, pcv, and a few other things. What am i looking for specifically when i check these things out?!

my car has leaky fuel injector orings and it smokes out that too

just another option to look at

Alright ...i got a new MAF for it, and its still doing the same damn thing!!!!!!! Fuel shooting our exhaust, horrible idle, barely responds when i hit the throttle ....this is seriously getting old, im about to burn this thing and claim insurance, im so fuc**** frustrated now Anyone ....please .......

Ok, i took out my plugs and they look better now, but i still have fuel shooting out the exhaust!!? timing is at stock 20btdc ...maf is good now got a new one, new fpr, used but good condition injectors lubed and installed, o-rings look great. But still i have fuel coming out the exhaust, and oh ..its literally dumping from the bottom of the car, no idea where its coming from either!??! I went to drive it today, or attempt to at least ...no acceleration, in fact it barely moves, the more i push on the gas the more it wants to die on me, also ...very wierd thing happened. I ran codes again (fixed air temp sensor) and got 55, but while i was driving, the cel was not on, and it was driving like piss, then the cel came on ..........and it drove better!!!!!!!!!! ...Then it would go off again and run like crap again ...guys help me out here, ive been talking to my damn self now for almost a week .....

everyone that responded to this thread is a moron, you have a leaking/stuck open fuel injector.

start ur motor while its running unplug each fuel injector individually, if the motor starts running rougher then plug it back in and move on to the next one. when you get to the one that you can unplug and nothing happens to the idle thats ur problem. get a new injector, change ur oil and plugs and you should be good to go.
