Hey, I just got my S14a and need some help working out some kinks. I hope you guys can help me with these.

1) When I shift to gear 2 and 4, it seems to kind of resist going in at first, then hops in gear. This is not drastic, its very subtle, just kinda noticed when shifting. Does anyone else have this with their manuals? I have a type C short shifter also.

2) When I rev, most of the time you can hear a rattling from under the car. My brother figured out it was the 2nd Cat. I know its not the exhaust because it did it with both the stock and Apexi N1 Single. What can I do to stop this rattling? I don't wanna just take a hammer to it so I need opinions.

3) I messed around with the intake (stock) yesterday, and on the top tube before the box there was a wire plugged in to the tube, it looked like it did nothing. '95 240s don't have this, I'm guessing its only on the OBDII cars (96-98). Anyways, when I unplugged it and turned the engine on, everything ran fine except I noticed the engine check light was on. I plugged this back in and still the check light was on. Any ideas?

4) I was driving around last night for awhile, and I noticed heat coming up from under the dash. It was happening on both sides. Is this normal for our cars to do this? I was kind of getting worried. The temp meter was jump below the middle mark. My friend with a 95 said he noticed this sometimes too, but not when he was wearing jeans or something. I was wearing jeans and had the windows and sunroof open...soo I don't know.

Hope you guys can help me with this. Thanks for the time.

I took the car to autozone this morning and had the obdII checker read my ecu. It was an air temp malfunction, basically from just taking it out and plugging it back in. I got the ecu reset and everything is fine so disregard #3.

its the 97-98 240sx.1. could be ur synchros or a loose shift plate-happened on my bimmer2. things rattle, prolly something loose, my heat sheild on the header does this cuz im missing a bolt.4. if u have any of the vents open, but even with the fan off, the air will come through, just push the recirculation button and problem solved

thanks for the reply. Where is the shift plate? I installed my short shifter last weekend and everything seemed pretty tight. When it jumps into gear you can hear a slight "doonk" sound coming from the rear too sometimes. I'll check the cat for loose bolts. About the vents, i had it on recirculation and stuff but didn't have the air on. The heat wasn't coming through the vents, it was like actually up from under the dash on both sides. I drove for awhile today and it didn't do it, wonder why it happens sometimes and other times not. any more suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
