I'm ordering a small piece of wood trim from Jason Burtman, just for the piece around the shifter plate. I had a '94 dash in my '92 (not a very good fit, so dont do it), and thought the dark burl looked really sharp on a black surface.

Right now in my '90 I've got a black dash, dark brown dash top, tan carpets, and tan seats, with black door handles.

I love the amber zebrano, which looks like it came right out of an Eldorado, but thats more fitting for a car with a straight dash, not a curvy one.

So, I'm torn between dark teak and dark burl. There's also the Volvo V70 trim, shown here:

I'd say the "Dark Burl" sounds like the best choice.

IMO might look stupid with the brown dash. If you have an all black interior itd be a better choice, with a nice aluminum shift knob.

Every combination looks awkward with a brown dash (the worst interior color Infiniti has ever come up with...EVER). That's way I had to change my interior to black, so now things look a little more pleasant behind the wheels. I'm still missing some black pieces to complete the transformation, so the project isn't as complete yet...

Dear Jesda,

With a brown dash top and tan seats, your challenge is picking a wood which compliments the brown dash. You want to select a wood of similiar tone and hue. You may want to request several samples and lay them on the dash. That might eliminate woods with a red tinge such as the Amber or Regal and those with a yellow tinge such as a Maple or Oxford. I can only assume your brown dash maybe exhibit some tones of gray which would lean towards the Royal. Actual samples will give you a better idea.

Also, in the short term, I will be in the market for a new dash kit. Is there any special pricing from Jason for NICO members?

Thanks,

Jim

What's the deal with a black dash and tan top? Sounds unique!

Anyway... I have a black interior with what looks like a dk red burled walnut kit---the look is die for.

I'm treating the tan interior 94T to a Blond Apaya kit from Jason. I think this looks best with the tan---you want to avoid red and oranges hues with our tan interiors. I'll be installing it soon.

I drove the prior two Qs without wood and I thought it was time for a change. I like them with and without (as we say in Philly).

The blond apaya is light and airy looking and is very similar to newer Q shades. My first Q had a zebra wood---it looked awkward.

Sounds like your trying to get away from the stock look but I have a 3 piece burl set from a 91Q that's in good shape. Let me know.

Welcome to NICO.

zerothread/215969http://forums.nicoclub ... m/zerohelp

Here are a couple of threads that will help you with pictures.

It would probably be better to start a new thread to introduce yourself and ask questions, rather than moving this thread off topic.

I thought I would post this up:

I ordered a wood kit from Jason for the 94Q. A full kit, so as to change the whole color scheme. It included the door peices--Jason warned me that they did not fully cover the the base wood on the doors. He was indeed correct. He told me another customer has painted around the new pieces with good results. Well, I tried it and it was a mixed bag. The wood kit overall is a nice kit but to be honest it is not as nice as an aftermarket kit that came in my black 96. The kit in the 96 is a dash kit only and it matches the shifter surrounds and door handle surrounds. It has higher "relief" and contour than Jasons "more" flat kits. It is what prompted me to do a kit from Jason for the 94.

I decided after I had partially installed it to remove it---that was a pia. So be careful with this if you are doing a total color change.

Jason kits are great but don't expect factory results if you are doing doors too on a 94-96 (wood over wood). Its aint going to happen. Jason tried to get the manufacturing company to redo the door patterns--they would not. The new door wood piece was about 1mm too small around on the outer diameter.

Jason was great to deal with though

That is trick since they are different woods.

Its not a perfect match but its darn close. The kit in the 96 is totally unreal good. It has 3D relief that looks like it came with the car. The car came from and was serviced at Infiniti of Greenwich, CT. It must have been dealer installed ten years ago. Its a one owner (before me) car.

I think the door and console are real wood in the 1995 I have. They are definitely different from each other, though.

I wonder what Nissan was thinking?

I have the high gloss kit dealer installed in my t, but I removed the top half of the dash as it did not quite fit right (how could it with those slot cut-outs?) and started to buckle. The bottom is in two pieces on either side of the steering wheel column. Less cut-outs help it appear better installed. Of course it is totally different from the two woods that are OEM.
